Angewandte Chemie 45/2017: Changing of the Guard

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In their Editorial, Peter Gölitz, Neville Compton, and Alois Fürstner comment on the change of the journal’s editorship and look back on the Angewandte Festsymposium in Berlin in September. Y. Lin et al. review single-atom electrocatalysts. How can they be used in various electrochemical applications, such as the oxygen reduction reaction, the hydrogen evolution reaction, and hydrocarbon conversion reactions for fuel cells? The Highlight deals with the synthesis of the Securinega alkaloid virosaine A by Hughes and Gleason (B. D. Ellis, C. D. Vanderwal).

In the Communications section, D. Sinton et al. investigate the pressure–temperature phase envelope of a mixture in 1000 microfluidic chambers (see picture). X.-W. Wang and W.-B. Zhang found that protein catenation enhances both the stability and activity of folded structural domains. M. D. Ward et al. succeeded in the encapsulation of isolated luminophores with supramolecular cages. L. Ackermann et al. describe an asymmetric iron-catalyzed C–H alkylation which is enabled by remote ligand meta-substitution.
