Jens Rieger Receives Walther-Nernst Medal

Yesterday, Dr. Jens Rieger, BASF, Ludwigshafen, Germany, received the Walther-Nernst Medal at the110th Bunsentagung, the annual German conference on Physical Chemistry, in Berlin, Germany. The award comemmorates a pioneer of physical chemistry. It is awarded by the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry (DBG; Deutsche Bunsengesellschaft) for outstanding contributions to applied physical chemistry.

Jens Rieger received his PhD in Theoretical Physics at the Universität des Saarlandes, Germany. Since 1989, he has worked for BASF; first in the field of polymeric materials, then on particle, scale, and crystallization processes. Since 2006, he has been internal advisor on exploratory research and nanotechnology at BASF. Presently, he is heading the BASF Advanced Research Initiative at Harvard together with Dave Weitz and George Whitesides.

Jens Rieger is member of several advisory boards, e.g., for the journal of Advanced Materials. He is author or co-author of more than 100 scientific publications, contributions to books and patents. In 2005, Jens Rieger was appointed Distinguished Guest Professor at the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAC), Chinese Academy of Sciences.
