In their Review, A. K. Gosh et al. wonder how to combat the drug resistance of HIVand discuss enhanced protein backbone binding as a fruitful concept. A. Ajayaghosh et al. write on self-assembled gelators for organic soft electronics in a Minireview. The Highlights deal with molecular gels for flexible optics (G. John et al.) and palladium(II)-catalyzed C-H alkenylation (M. Oestreich et al.). In an Editorial, R. Hoffmann explains why Nobel prizes in chemistry for “nonchemists” are not necessarily bad decisions.

In the Communications section, P. D. Beer et al. describe a halogen-bonding catenane that recognizes chloride and bromide ions solely by halogen bonding (see picture). C. A. DeForest and K. S. Anseth succeeded in the reversible patterning of biochemical cues into hydrogels with full spatiotemporal control by using two photochemical reactions. A universal molecular force probe for measuring by AFM the strength of receptor–ligand and protein–protein complexes was developed by P. E. Marszalek et al., and H. Yamamoto et al. demonstrate a rapid and stereochemically flexible synthesis of polypropionates.
