Where would chemistry be today without quantum theory? In their Nobel Lectures, the 2012 Laureates in Physics discuss how to control photons in a box (S. Haroche) and what superposition and entanglement mean for Schrödinger's cat (D. J. Wineland).


In the Communications section, R. M. Bullock et al. present two organometallic agostic isomers of different colors (see picture). X. Li et al. succeeded in a synthesis of difficult cyclic tetrapeptides thanks to a head-to-tail ring closure. O. Hampe et al. report on the fixation of O2 and CO2 by metal porphyrin anions in the gas phase.
