"Chemistry – The Creative Force"

Building on the success of the previous two years, this year’s EuCheMS congress brings you 140 talks, over 20 exhibitors, four award presentations and a vibrant social program.

Being held in the medieval city of Nuremberg, the scientific program will be wide and varied, intending to appeal to chemists from all backgrounds. Spanning five days and seven themes, the conference will present the latest research from the core areas of chemistry and how this can be applied to diverse fields such as life sciences and the environment.

The focus will be on the global challenges chemistry faces and chemistry‘s impact on society and the important contributions it can provide for addressing these issues.
The seven key themes are:

1. Innovative Materials
2. Resources and Environment
3. Supramolecular Systems
4. Catalysis
5. Molecular Life Sciences
6. Analysis, Manipulation and Simulation
7. Advances in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry

Each of the themes will be subdivided into several symposia and introduced by one of the plenary speakers. In addition to the plenary lectures, the symposia will feature invited lectures, oral communications, and poster sessions.

Other Program Highlights

The congress is accompanied by an exhibition, at which companies, research institutions, and scientific organizations can present their activities, along with a job fair organized by the European Young Chemists Network.

Meetings of the EuCheMS divisions will run concurrently with the main program and focus on the following Special Symposia:

• Highlights in Nuclear Chemistry;
• Clinical Chemistry between Analytical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine;
• Mechanisms in Disease Developments;
• Highlights in Inorganic Chemistry;
• Sustainability in and of Chemical Education.

Several awards will be presented at the conference, including the 2010 Heinrich Emanuel Merck Award for Analytical Sciences, which will be awarded to Luisa Torsi, Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Bari in Italy. She is the first woman ever to receive this award.

The European Young Chemist Award, the recipiant of which will be choosen from shortlisted candiates based on their presentations at a special session of the conference.

The social calendar includes the C₆₀ Party where chemistry meets soccer, which is being held at the easyCredit Stadion, home of FC Nuremberg.

A second night’s entertainment consists of a concert at St. Sebaldus Church with a musical program that takes advantage of their renowned organ.

Venue

The Congress Center Nürnberg, a modern facility with capacity for 11,000 attendees.

Location

Located in the southern Germany, Nuremberg is the second largest city in Bavaria, with half a million inhabitants. The city dates back to the 11th century and still maintains its medieval feel through the presence of Nuremberg Castle and Hospital of the Holy Spirit (Heilig-Geist-Spital), both prominent tourist attractions. Known for its gingerbread, the Hauptmarkt market is the site of the world renowned Christmas fair and is adjacent to Frauenkirche and close to several museums and restaurants.

The city of Nuremberg, itself, has an underground system along with trams and buses. The conference registration fee includes public transport with Nuremberg.
