Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, J. Cho et al. review nickel-rich layered lithium transition metal oxides for high-energy lithium-ion batteries. What progress was made recently and what are the limits and new utilization possibilities for these materials? In an Essay, R. Schlögl discusses the changes in the energy regime in Germany (“Energiewende“) and the role of chemistry and catalysis therein. The Highlight deals with piezoelectricity in two-dimensional materials (T. Wu and H. Zhang).

In the Communications section, D. Spitzer et al. describe sulfates-based nanothermites as metastable interstitial composites (see picture). P. Knochel et al. present cobalt-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of (hetero)aryl zinc reagents with alkyl halides. D. C. Harrowven et al. found that a carbon-centered radical may act as either an anion or electrophile through an orbital isomer. Y. Wang et al. succeeded in the Fischer–Tropsch production of Diesel fuel over mesoporous zeolite-supported cobalt nanoparticles.
