Assistant Professor Felix R. Fischer, University of California, Berkeley, USA, has received the Carl Duisberg Memorial Prize 2016 from the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCH, German Chemical Society). The prize is awarded to chemists under 40 years of age who do not hold a position as full professor but have distinguished themselves through original work.
The award includes a 7,500 EUR endowment and was presented at the Chemiedozententagung 2016 in Heidelberg, Germany, on March 22, 2016. Professor Fischer was honored for his high-quality and innovative work in physical organic chemistry.
Felix R. Fischer studied chemistry at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich, where he received his Ph.D. in 2008. He then spent three years as a German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University, New York, USA. In 2001, he joined the University of California, Berkeley, as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry.
Professor Fischer’s research focuses on the rational design of organic functional materials for applications in molecular electronic devices. In order to control the structure of these materials, he uses tools derived from supramolecular chemistry and methods based on biomolecular recognition.
