In this issue, R. Schobert et al. review the chemistry and biology of nutritional immunity. What are the perspectives for anti-infectives that target iron uptake systems? The Highlights deal with the crystal structure of human tyrosinase related protein 1 (H. Decker and F. Tuczek) and the construction of quarternary stereogenic centers in natural products syntheses (E. V. Prusov).

In the Communications section, K. Ray et al. present a highly reactive oxoiron(IV) complex supported by a bioinspired N3O macrocyclic ligand (see picture). C. V. Robinson et al. found that native desorption electrospray ionization liberates soluble and membrane protein complexes from surfaces. J. S. Zhou et al. describe an asymmetric intermolecular Heck reaction of propargylic acetates and cycloalkenes to access fused cyclobutenes.
