The Fuling shale gas field is China’s first large shale gas field. It has been discovered in 2014 and developed by Sinopec in Chongqing, in central China. The total proven reserves are estimated to around 2100 km³.

The Fuling shale gas field has built up an annual capacity of 10 billion m3. In 2017, it generated over 6 billion m3 of shale gas.

15.3 % of the worldwide reserves are estimated to be in China, only 13 % is in the US.
