Technical Corn Oil for Renewable Diesel

Technical Corn Oil for Renewable Diesel

Author: ChemistryViews

Neste Oil has started using technical corn oil (TCO), a residue generated during ethanol production, as additional input  to produce BExBTL renewable diesel on a commercial basis. Supplies of TCO are currently sourced from the US, which the company sees as a growing market for renewable fuel. Trials to confirm the suitability of TCO for producing NExBTL renewable diesel were carried out in spring 2013.
Neste Oil is currently the world’s only biofuel producer capable of refining premium-quality renewable fuel from over 10 different feedstocks on an industrial scale.

NExBTL is a renewable diesel production process. NExBTL diesel, as an admixture or in its pure form, is able to supplement or partially replace diesel fuel without problems. The NExBTL hydrogenation technology can use a wide variety of feedstocks without impacting the quality of the end-product. Last year, Neste Oil produced enough NExBTL renewable diesel from waste and residues to power 740,000 cars for a year.
The comnpany is also continuing research on completely new types of inputs, such as microbial oil and algae oil.
