Decoupling the Effects of High Crystallinity and Surface Area on the Photocatalytic Overall Water Splitting over β‐Ga 2 O 3 Nanoparticles by Chemical Vapor Synthesis

Published: 16 October 2017

Author(s): Sasa Lukic, Jasper Menze, Philipp Weide, G. Wilma Busser, Markus Winterer, Martin Muhler

Abstract Chemical vapor synthesis (CVS) is a unique method to prepare well‐defined photocatalyst materials with both large specific surface area and a high degree of crystallinity. The obtained β‐Ga2O3 nanoparticles were optimized for photocatalysis by reductive photodeposition of the Rh/CrOx co‐catalyst system. The influence of the degree of crystallinity and the specific surface area on photocatalytic aqueous methanol reforming and overall...

Facile Synthesis of a Novel Hierarchical ZSM‐5 Zeolite: A Stable Acid Catalyst for Dehydrating Glycerol to Acrolein

Published: 16 October 2017

Author(s): Rolf Beerthuis, Liang Huang, N. Raveendran Shiju, Gadi Rothenberg, Wei Shen, Hualong Xu

Abstract Catalytic biomass conversion is often hindered by coking. Carbon compounds cover active surface and plug pores, causing catalyst deactivation. Material design at the nanoscale allows tailoring of the catalytic activity and stability. Here, we report a simple synthesis of nanosized ZSM‐5 materials by using a silicalite‐1 seeding suspension. ZSM‐5 crystals were grown from a deionized silica source in the presence of ammonia....

Enhanced Relative Stability of Metallabenzenes versus Metallocenes upon Ring Perfluorination: Nickel, Palladium, and Platinum Systems

Published: 16 October 2017

Author(s): Jing Li, Guoliang Li, Yaoming Xie, R. Bruce King, Henry F. Schaefer

Perfluorination of one η5‐C5H5 ring in the MC10H10 system (M = Ni, Pd, Pt) to give an MC10H5F5 system greatly destabilizes structures containing a perfluorinated pentahapto η5‐C5F5 ring. As a result, the metallapentafluorobenzene structures (η5‐C5H5)(MC5F5) are the lowest‐energy structures for all three metals, with energy differences of 1.4, 6.2, and 16.2 kcal/mol for nickel, palladium, and platinum, respectively. In addition, palladium and platinum isomeric...

Synthesis and Characterization of a Series of Nickel Complexes with Tripodal and Related Ligands: Electroreductive Coupling of Alkynes and Carbon Dioxide

Published: 16 October 2017

Author(s): Konstantina I. Alexopoulou, Michael Leibold, Olaf Walter, Thomas A. Zevaco, Siegfried Schindler

Nickel(II) complexes of a series of tripodal ligands (and derivatives), for example, [Ni(Me6tren)(DMF)](ClO4)2 [Me6tren = tris(2‐dimethylaminoethyl)‐amine], are prepared and structurally characterized. The complexes are tested for their potential to be used as mediators for electroreductive coupling of butadiene and carbon dioxide. From the whole series, the complex [Ni(Me5dien)(DMF)3](ClO4)2 (Me5dien = 1,1,4,7,7‐pentamethyl‐diethylenetriamine)...

Synthesis and Properties of Lewis Acidic Perfluoroorganotin Halides with 2,3,5,6‐Tetrafluoropyridyl and Pentafluoroethyl Substituents

Published: 16 October 2017

Author(s): Markus Wiesemann, Hans‐Georg Stammler, Beate Neumann, Berthold Hoge

In this paper, the synthesis of perfluoroorganotin bromides featuring 2,3,5,6‐tetrafluoropyridyl (C5F4N) and pentafluoroethyl (C2F5) substituents of the general composition BrSn(C2F5)n(C5F4N)3–n (n = 0–2) is discussed. The utilization of the p‐tolyl unit as a protecting group and LiC5F4N and LiC2F5 as perfluoroarylation and alkylation reagents allows a stepwise sequence of deprotection with HX (X = Cl, Br) and substitution to afford heteroleptic stannanes with...
