Stability evaluation of quality parameters for palm oil products at low temperature storage

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Nur Aainaa Syahirah Ramli, Mohd Azmil Mohd Noor, Hajar Musa, Razmah Ghazali

Abstract BACKGROUND Palm oil is one of the major oils and fats produced and traded worldwide. The value of palm oil products is mainly influenced by their quality. According to ISO 17025:2005, accredited laboratories require a quality control procedure with respect to monitoring the validity of tests for determination of quality parameters. This includes the regular use of internal quality control...

Preparation of Tetradentate Copper Chelators as Potential Anti‐Alzheimer Agents

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Weixin Zhang, Daya Huang, Meijie Huang, Ju Huang, Dean Wang, Xingguo Liu, Michel Nguyen, Laure Vendier, Serge Mazères, Anne Robert, Yan Liu, Bernard Meunier

Abstract The uncontrolled redox activity of metal ions, especially copper, in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) should be considered the origin of intense oxidative damage to neurons in the AD brain. To obtain low‐molecular‐weight copper chelators that act as tetradentate ligands, we designed new compounds based on an 8‐aminoquinoline motif with a lateral chain attached at the 2‐position of the aromatic ring. Some...

Caveat Usor: Assessing Differences between Major Chemistry Databases

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Christopher Southan

Abstract The three databases of PubChem, ChemSpider, and UniChem capture the majority of open chemical structure records with February 2018 totals of 95, 63, and 154 million, respectively. Collectively, they constitute a massively enabling resource for cheminformatics, chemical biology, and drug discovery. As meta‐portals, they subsume and link out to the major proportion of public bioactivity data extracted from the literature and...

3D Flake‐Like Bi 2 Te 3 with Outstanding Lightweight Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Feature

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Jiabin Chen, Xiaohui Liang, Bin Quan, Zhihong Yang, Youwei Du, Guangbin Ji

Abstract Flake‐like semiconductors with strong interfacial polarization exhibit excellent electromagnetic absorption properties. To the best of the knowledge, 3D flake‐like Bi2Te3 is never reported as effective MAMs (microwave absorption materials). Herein, it is first introduced the novel lightweight microwave absorption of 3D flake‐like Bi2Te3 synthesized by a simple hydrothermal process. Compared with the traditional research objects, the...

Elemental Ferroelectricity and Antiferroelectricity in Group‐V Monolayer

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Chengcheng Xiao, Fang Wang, Shengyuan A. Yang, Yunhao Lu, Yuanping Feng, Shengbai Zhang

Abstract Ferroelectricity is usually found in compound materials composed by different elements. Here, based on first‐principles calculations, spontaneous electric polarization and ferroelectricity in 2D elemental group‐V (As, Sb, and Bi) monolayer with the puckered lattice structure similar to phosphorene is revealed. These are the first example of elemental ferroelectric materials. The polarization is due to the spontaneous...

A Polymorphic Gold(III) Complex Comprising a Multifunctional Triazolylpropanamide Ligand

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Phil Liebing, Ling Wang, John W. Gilje, Marcel Kühling, Frank T. Edelmann

Reaction of HAuCl4·4H2O with the multifunctional ligand 3‐(1H‐1,2,4‐triazol‐1‐yl)propanamide (1, TPA) afforded the polymorphic gold(III) complex AuCl3(TPA) (2) in 75 % yield. Thermal decomposition of the latter revealed the hydrochloride [HTPA]Cl (3). Complex 2 forms a stable monoclinic and a metastable triclinic modification. The crystal structures of both modifications feature infinite supramolecular assemblies formed by secondary Au···Cl bonding interactions...

Comment on: Structural Stability of Boron Carbide under Pressure Proven by Spectroscopic Studies up to 73 GPa (Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 643, 1357 (2017))

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Helmut Werheit

The paper of Chuvachova et al. contains several deficiencies as well as irritating assumptions and conclusions. Their crucial conclusion on the structural stability of boron carbide under pressure is shown to be disproved by their own experimental results.

Phase Separation in AgCu and AgNi Core–Shell Icosahedral Nanoparticles: A Harmonic Thermodynamics Study

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Daniele Bonventre, Emanuele Panizon, Riccardo Ferrando

Abstract The temperature dependence of equilibrium chemical ordering in Ag‐rich AgCu and AgNi icosahedral nanoalloys is numerically studied within the harmonic superposition approximation to the partition function. The nanoalloys are modeled by an atomistic force field derived from the second‐moment approximation to the tight‐binding model. It is found that the equilibrium chemical ordering consists of phase‐separated arrangements...

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Yan‐Xin Duan, Fan‐Lu Meng, Kai‐Hua Liu, Sha‐Sha Yi, Si‐Jia Li, Jun‐Min Yan, Qing Jiang

Abstract Conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable chemicals, especially liquid fuels, through electrochemical reduction driven by sustainable energy sources, is a promising way to get rid of dependence on fossil fuels, wherein developing of highly efficient catalyst is still of paramount importance. In this study, as a proof‐of‐concept experiment, first a facile while very effective protocol is proposed to synthesize ...
