Facile Chemoenzymatic Synthesis of O‐Mannosyl Glycans

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Shuaishuai Wang, Qing Zhang, CongCong Chen, Yuxi Guo, Madhusudhan Reddy Gadi, Jin Yu, Ulrika Westerlind, Yunpeng Liu, Xuefeng Cao, Peng G. Wang, Lei Li

Abstract O Mannosylation is a vital protein modification involved in brain and muscle development whereas the biological relevance of O‐mannosyl glycans has remained largely unknown owing to the lack of structurally defined glycoforms. An efficient scaffold synthesis/enzymatic extension (SSEE) strategy was developed to prepare such structures by combining gram‐scale convergent chemical syntheses of three scaffolds and strictly...

Chiral N,N′ ‐Dioxide/Sc ΙΙΙ Complex‐Catalyzed Asymmetric Ring‐Opening Reaction of Cyclopropyl Ketones with Indoles

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Fenzhen Chang, Lili Lin, Yong Xia, Hang Zhang, Shunxi Dong, Xiaohua Liu, Xiaoming Feng

Abstract The asymmetric ring‐opening reaction of cyclopropyl ketones with indoles has been realized by using a N,N′‐dioxide/scandium(ΙΙΙ) complex as catalyst. The corresponding 3‐alkylated indole derivatives were obtained in moderate to excellent yields with good ee values. Moreover, a possible transition state was proposed on the basis of experimental studies and X‐ray structure of product.

An Assembled Nano‐complex for Improving both Therapeutic Efficiency and Treatment Depth in Photodynamic Therapy

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Hongqian Cao, Lei Wang, Yang Yang, Juan Li, Yanfei Qi, Yue Li, Ying Li, Hao Wang, Junbai Li

Abstract Photodynamic therapy (PDT) shows unique selectivity and irreversible destruction toward treated tissues or cells, but still has several problems in clinical practice. One is limited therapeutic efficiency, which is attributed to hypoxia in tumor sites. Another is the limited treatment depth because traditional photosensitizes are excited by short wavelength light (<700 nm). An assembled nano‐complex system composed of...

The Oxidation of Peroxide by Disordered Metal Oxides: A Measurement of Thermodynamic Stability “By Proxy”

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Mayada Sabri, Hannah J. King, Rosalind J. Gummow, François Malherbe, Rosalie K. Hocking

Abstract It is often noted that disordered materials have different chemical properties to their more “ordered” cousins. Quantifying these effects in terms of thermodynamics is challenging in part because disordered materials can be difficult to characterise and are frequently relatively unstable. During the course of our experiments to understand the effects of disorder in catalysts for water oxidation we observed that many...

Traversing Steric Limitations by Cooperative Lewis Base/Palladium Catalysis: An Enantioselective Synthesis of α‐Branched Esters Using 2‐Substituted Allyl Electrophiles

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Kevin J. Schwarz, Colin M. Pearson, Gabriel A. Cintron‐Rosado, Peng Liu, Thomas N. Snaddon

Abstract Cooperative catalysis enables the direct enantioselective α‐allylation of linear prochiral esters with 2‐substituted allyl electrophiles. Critical to the successful development of the method was the recognition that metal‐centered reactivity and the source of enantiocontrol are independent. This feature is unique to simultaneous catalysis events and permits logical tuning of the supporting ligands without compromising...

Maximizing the Number of Interfacial Sites in Single‐Atom Catalysts for the Highly Selective, Solvent‐Free Oxidation of Primary Alcohols

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Tianbo Li, Fei Liu, Yan Tang, Lin Li, Shu Miao, Yang Su, Junying Zhang, Jiahui Huang, Hui Sun, Masatake Haruta, Aiqin Wang, Botao Qiao, Jun Li, Tao Zhang

Abstract The solvent‐free selective oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes with molecular oxygen is highly attractive yet challenging. Interfacial sites between a metal and an oxide support are crucial in determining the activity and selectivity of such heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, we demonstrate that the use of supported single‐atom catalysts (SACs) leads to high activity and selectivity in this reaction. The significantly...

A Deca‐9‐Fluorenolato‐deca‐Samarium Oxide Cage

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Daniel Werner, Glen B. Deacon, Peter C. Junk

The 9‐fluorenone (fn) ketyl in [YbIII(DippForm)2(fn·‐O)] {DippForm = N,N′‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)formamidinate}, underwent reduction to the dianion ({C13H8}‐O) upon single electron transfer from SmIII2(thf)2. The dianion was obtained as a decanuclear, deca‐9‐fluorenolato, tetraoxido mixed‐oxidation‐state samarium cage [Sm10O4{(C13H8)‐O}10(thf)10], obtained after ligand redistribution. The structure is relevant to the deoxygenation of ketones by lanthanoid metals. ...

Preparation of Swellable Hydrogel‐Containing Colloidosomes from Aqueous Two‐Phase Pickering Emulsion Droplets

Published: 18 May 2018

Author(s): Jean‐Paul Douliez, Nicolas Martin, Thomas Beneyton, Jean‐Charles Eloi, Jean‐Paul Chapel, Laurence Navailles, Jean‐Christophe Baret, Stephen Mann, Laure Béven

Abstract The fabrication of stable colloidosomes derived from water‐in‐water Pickering‐like emulsions are described that were produced by addition of fluorescent amine‐modified polystyrene latex beads to an aqueous two‐phase system consisting of dextran‐enriched droplets dispersed in a PEG‐enriched continuous phase. Addition of polyacrylic acid followed by carbodiimide‐induced crosslinking with dextran produces hydrogelled droplets...
