MoS 2 Quantum Dots‐Modified Covalent Triazine‐Based Frameworks for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Qianqian Jiang, Long Sun, Jinhong Bi, Shijing Liang, Liuyi Li, Yan Yu, Ling Wu

Abstract MoS2 quantum dots (QDs)‐modified covalent triazine‐based framework (MoS2/CTF) composites are synthesized through an in situ photodeposition method. MoS2 QDs are well distributed and stabilized on the layers of CTFs by coordination of the frameworks to MoS2. The QDs–sheet interactions between MoS2 and CTFs facilitate interfacial charge transfer and separation. As a consequence, the composites exhibit outstanding photocatalytic activity and...

Improved Photoactivity of Pyroxene Silicates by Cation Substitutions

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Merid Legesse, Heesoo Park, Fedwa El Mellouhi, Sergey N. Rashkeev, Sabre Kais, Fahhad H. Alharbi

Abstract We investigated the possibility of band structure engineering of pyroxene silicates with chemical formula A+1B+3Si2O6 by proper cation substitution. Typically, band gaps of naturally formed pyroxene silicates such as NaAlSi2O6 are quite high (≈5 eV). Therefore, it is important to find a way to reduce band gaps for these materials below 3 eV to make them usable for optoelectronic applications operating at visible light range of the spectrum. Using...

Trapping One Electron between Three Beryllium Atoms: Very Strong One‐Electron Three‐Center Bonds

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Ibon Alkorta, M. Merced Montero‐Campillo, José Elguero, Manuel Yáñez, Otilia Mó

Abstract The ability of a set of beryllium‐substituted cyclohexane derivatives to trap electrons was determined by evaluating their electron affinities at the G4(MP2) level of theory. The nature of bonding and the effect of the different substituents attached to beryllium were studied by different computational methods (quantum theory of atoms in molecules, electron localization function, natural bond orbital, and analysis of the...

Co‐immobilization of Laccase and TEMPO in the Compartments of Mesoporous Silica for a Green and One‐Pot Cascade Synthesis of Coumarins by Knoevenagel Condensation

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Mehdi Mogharabi‐Manzari, Mohsen Amini, Mohammad Abdollahi, Mehdi Khoobi, Ghodsieh Bagherzadeh, Mohammad Ali Faramarzi

Abstract Co‐immobilization of bio‐ and chemocatalysts produces sustainable, recyclable hybrid systems that open new horizons for green cascade approaches in organic synthesis. Here, the co‐immobilization of laccase and 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidin‐1‐oxyl (TEMPO) in mesoporous silica was used for the one‐pot aqueous synthesis of 30 coumarin‐3‐carboxylate derivatives under mild conditions through the condensation of in situ oxidized...

The Strong β−CF 3 Shielding Effect in Hexafluoroisopropanol and 100 Other Organic Solvents Revisited with 17 O NMR Spectroscopy

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Annika Bernhardt, Harald Kelm, Frederic W. Patureau

Abstract An 17O NMR spectroscopy survey of more than 100 ubiquitous organic solvents and compounds, including some typical oxofluorinated solvents such as hexafluoroisopropanol, trifluoroethanol, trifluoroacetic acid, and others, is presented with D2O as a reference. A strong alternating α,β−CF3‐substituent chemical shift effect was thus observed. This alternating deshielding–shielding effect is suspected to have a role in the exceptional...

Nanosheets/Mesopore Structured Co 3 O 4 @CMK‐3 Composite as an Electrocatalyst for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Lang Gan, Mengran Wang, Langtao Hu, Jing Fang, Yanqing Lai, Jie Li

Abstract The exploration of highly effective and low‐cost non‐noble‐metal electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) will have a significant impact on the area of fuel cells and metal–air batteries. Here, we report a facile, efficient, and environmentally friendly method to deposit transition metal oxide nanosheets (NSs) on the backbone of ordered mesoporous carbon (CMK‐3) by the pyrolysis of the metal‐precursor@CMK‐3....

Air‐stable Ruthenium(II)‐NNN Pincer Complexes for the Efficient Coupling of Aromatic Diamines and Alcohols to 1 H ‐benzo[ d ]imidazoles with the Liberation of H 2

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Lin Li, Qi Luo, Huahua Cui, Renjie Li, Jing Zhang, Tianyou Peng

Abstract Two new phosphine‐free RuII‐NNN pincer complexes ([RuCl(L1)(CH3CN)2]Cl (1) and [RuCl(L2)(CH3CN)2]Cl (2) [L1=2,6‐bis(1H‐imidazole‐2‐yl)pyridine, L2=2,6‐bis(1‐hexyl‐1H‐imidazole‐2‐yl)pyridine] were synthesized to catalyze the condensation of benzyl alcohol and benzene‐1,2‐diamine homogeneously to 2‐pheny‐1H‐benzo[d]imidazole and H2. The reactivity in the order of 1>2 is lower than that of the phosphine‐containing RuII‐NNN pincer complex...

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Jun Wang, Li Wang, Haojie Yu, Raja Summe Ullah, Muhammad Haroon,  Zain‐ul‐Abdin, Xia Xia, Rizwan Ullah Khan

Ethylene polymerization catalyzed by Ni and Pd catalysts is an area of great interest both in academic research and for industrial production. The structures of Ni and Pd catalysts can dramatically influence polymerization performance. In this review, the influence of newly reported Ni and Pd catalysts on ethylene polymerization, from ligand effects to metal–metal cooperativity, as well as the polymerization conditions, are discussed to...

Recent Advances in Pd‐Catalyzed Cross‐Coupling Reaction in Ionic Liquids

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Jianxiao Li, Shaorong Yang, Wanqing Wu, Huanfeng Jiang

Ionic liquids (ILs) can behave as green solvents in comparison with conventional organic solvents, but more often they also act as ligands, co‐catalysts, and stabilizing agents both for metal active species and for intermediates of catalytic systems. In this review we have mainly summarized the recent achievements (2013 to the present) in Pd‐catalyzed cross‐coupling in ILs for the assembly of structurally diverse and highly functionalized...

Preparation of Tetradentate Copper Chelators as Potential Anti‐Alzheimer Agents

Published: 23 February 2018

Author(s): Weixin Zhang, Daya Huang, Meijie Huang, Ju Huang, Dean Wang, Xingguo Liu, Michel Nguyen, Laure Vendier, Serge Mazères, Anne Robert, Yan Liu, Bernard Meunier

Abstract The uncontrolled redox activity of metal ions, especially copper, in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) should be considered the origin of intense oxidative damage to neurons in the AD brain. To obtain low‐molecular‐weight copper chelators that act as tetradentate ligands, we designed new compounds based on an 8‐aminoquinoline motif with a lateral chain attached at the 2‐position of the aromatic ring. Some...
