BiVO 4 Fern Architectures: A Competitive Anode for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

Published: 19 October 2017

Author(s): Deepak P. Dubal, Deepak R. Patil, Santosh S. Patil, N. R. Munirathnam, Pedro Gomez‐Romero

Abstract The development of high‐performance anode materials for lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) is currently subject to much interest. In this study, BiVO4 fern architectures are introduced as a new anode material for LIBs. The BiVO4 fern shows an excellent reversible capacity of 769 mAh g−1 (ultrahigh volumetric capacity of 3984 mAh cm−3) at 0.12 A g−1 with large capacity retention. A LIB full cell is then assembled with a BiVO4 fern anode and LiFePO4 (LFP,...

Mechanosynthesis of Second‐Sphere Coordination Salts and Chelating Complexes: Structures, Reversible Transformations, and Nitroaromatic Explosives Sensing

Published: 19 October 2017

Author(s): Hai‐tao Li, Wen‐long Duan, Fang Guo

We have investigated the mechanosynthesis of a series of second‐sphere salts, guest⊂[H2L]2+·[MCl4]2– [L = N,N′‐dibenzyl‐(±)‐trans‐1,2‐diaminocyclohexane], and the reversible transformations to their chelating coordination complexes [MCl2(L)] through dehydrochlorination reactions. The second‐sphere salts and their corresponding coordination complexes show different solid‐state fluorescence spectra. The complex ZnCl2(L) (2′) acts as a sensor for the highly...

Photon Funnels for One‐Way Energy Transfer: Multimetallic Assemblies Incorporating Cyclometallated Iridium or Rhodium Units Accessed by Sequential Cross‐Coupling and Bromination

Published: 19 October 2017

Author(s): Kathryn J. Knuckey, J. A. Gareth Williams

The generation of multimetallic assemblies is a widely explored theme, owing to the relevance of controlling energy and electron transfer between metal centres to many fields of contemporary importance. Boronic acid substituted coordination and organometallic complexes have been shown to be useful synthons in the formation of such structures through cross‐coupling with halogenated complexes. In this work we used such a methodology to...

Optimization of Magnetic Relaxation and Isotopic Enrichment in Dimeric Dy III Single‐Molecule Magnets

Published: 19 October 2017

Author(s): Gang Huang, Xiaohui Yi, Julie Jung, Olivier Guillou, Olivier Cador, Fabrice Pointillart, Boris Le Guennic, Kevin Bernot

Single‐molecule magnet (SMM) behavior of dysprosium‐based dimers was optimized by substitution of a DyIII ancillary ligand (hfac– in the previously reported DyPyNO and tta– in Dy). A clear hysteresis opening is visible at 0.5 K for Dy that allows for the determination of an antiferromagnetic (AF) coupling of –2.92 cm–1 (S = 1/2, gz = 19.58) which was confirmed by ab initio calculations. Comparison with the results of DyPyNO shows that stronger AF coupling correlates with...

Ratiometric Fluorescence Detection of Phosphorylated Amino Acids Through Excited‐State Proton Transfer by Using Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) Recognition Nanolayers

Published: 19 October 2017

Author(s): Wei Wan, Ana B. Descalzo, Sudhirkumar Shinde, Hardy Weißhoff, Guillermo Orellana, Börje Sellergren, Knut Rurack

Abstract A 2,3‐diaminophenazine bis‐urea fluorescent probe monomer (1) was developed. It responds to phenylphosphate and phosphorylated amino acids in a ratiometric fashion with enhanced fluorescence accompanied by the development of a redshifted emission band arising from an excited‐state proton transfer (ESPT) process in the hydrogen‐bonded probe/analyte complex. The two urea groups of 1 form a cleft‐like binding pocket (Kb>1010 L2 mol−2...

Characterization of the Rh I /dppe‐Catalyzed Ring Expansion of 2‐Alkyl‐Benzocyclobutenones by DFT Calculations

Published: 19 October 2017

Author(s): Hua‐Li Qin, Chuang Zhao, Jing Leng, Eric Assen B. Kantchev

Abstract The [(dppe)RhCl]‐catalysed ring expansion of 2‐methylbenzocyclobutenone has been proposed to occur by C−C oxidative addition to rhodaindanone, β‐hydride elimination, hydrorhodation and C−C reductive elimination. DFT calculations [IEFPCM(1,4‐dioxane, 383.15 K)/PBE0/DGDZVP level of theory] here confirm this mechanism. As proposed, oxidative addition into CHMe−CO bond is preferred over the alternative CHMe‐aryl insertion. The...

Synthesis and Magnetic Properties of Trioxytriphenylamine Dimers in their Di(radical cationic) States

Published: 19 October 2017

Author(s): Shuichi Suzuki, Nobuaki Tanaka, Masatoshi Kozaki, Daisuke Shiomi, Kazunobu Sato, Takeji Takui, Keiji Okada

Abstract Three structural isomers of trioxytriphenylamine (TOT) dimers, 4,4′′′‐bis(2,2′:6′,2“:6”,6‐trioxytriphenylamine) (4), 3,3′′′‐bis(2,2′:6′,2“:6”,6‐trioxytriphenylamine) (5), and 3,4′′′‐bis(2,2′:6′,2“:6”,6‐trioxytriphenylamine) (6), have been prepared and their electronic and magnetic properties in their di(radical cationic) states have been investigated. These di(radical cationic) species can be handled under ambient conditions because of their high...
