Registration is now open for the first round of the DECHEMAX student competition Alltag 2050: Chemische Zukunftsvisionen. Teams of three to five students from Germany (grade 7–11) can register and answer the questions posted on the DECHEMAX website. A new question will appear every Thursday from November 17th to early February 2012. Questions will cover chemistry, biotechnology and engineering and students will have until the following Wednesday to submit their answers on the website.
A total of six correct answers is necessary for progress to the second round of the competition. It consists of exciting experiments designed so they can be performed at home in the kitchen. The experimental description will be available on the DECHEMAX website and will encourage students to experiment, observe, investigate, test, and explain.
All teams that successfully complete the first round will receive certificates and the top finishers will receive additional prizes.
Winners of the second round are in the running for books prizes, subscriptions to scientific journals, vouchers and more. The top three teams will be invited to a ceremony at the ACHEMA 2012 in Frankfurt, Germany, where they will receive 250 € each, a certificate of honor, and the DECHEMAX cup.
