The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) has launched a new retrosynthesis competition for UK-based chemistry graduates and post-graduates.

Teams are asked to submit a retrosynthetic route to the compound above. These will be judged by a panel of academic and industrial chemists and the top ten teams will be invited to the final at the SCI headquarters in London on the 29th February 2012. The selected teams will receive two new molecules three weeks before the final. At the final, they will present their disconnections and chosen synthetic route to one of the two molecules.

The deadline for entry is 23rd December 2011. Teams should be comprised of a maximum of four people.
