“Often, it is the young and those that transfer from another area that offer truly innovative solutions” – Michael Shuler, Cornell University, USA

Taking the advice from Professor Shuler, Biotechnology Journal invites high/secondary school students around the world, to contribute their point of view on how biotechnology could contribute to the green economy.

Biotechnology offers a great wealth of opportunities for sustainable development, but exactly how would it be possible to translate its potential to reality, and what do the young people today think about the topic? To foster discussion and generate innovative ideas, this essay competition is open to all high/secondary school students around the world.

The best three essays, as judged by an independent panel of experts, will be published in the forum section of the journal. The essays will be selected based on content (innovative ideas on the role of biotechnology in a green economy) and style of writing. In addition, winners will receive a copy of the journal in which their essays are published, and their schools will receive a one-year complimentary e-access to Biotechnology Journal.

Submission deadline: October 1, 2012
