This largest event of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society) and most important chemistry congress in the German-speaking world takes place every two years. It will be held online and in English this year. A special session for young scientists "Young Chemists – The Collective" will be held.

The motto "Chemists create solutions" already indicates that chemists have a crucial role to play in solving societal challenges. The GDCh deliberately chose an English motto this time, to emphasize how important collaborations across disciplinary and geographical borders are. They explicitly invite foreign colleagues to participate in the WiFo. Therefore, the proportion of English-language events will be significantly higher than at past WoFos, also to send a signal that the GDCh is continuing to vigorously drive forward its internationalization efforts. The GDCh is also very pleased about the cooperation with the Society of Austrian Chemists (GÖCH).

Plenary Symposium on Monday, August 30: "How to Avoid the Next Pandemic - Fighting Infectious Diseases of the Future."
Tuesday, August 31: "Chemistry for Future Energy Solutions."
Wednesday, September 1: "Perspectives for a Green Future"

At the ceremonial opening of the WiFo on August 29, the Karl Ziegler Prize will be awarded. It is one of the most highly endowed German chemistry prizes. As a further highlight, the Hildegard Hamm-Brücher Prize for Equal Opportunities in Chemistry will be awarded for the first time. With this new award, the GDCh honors individuals, teams, or organizations that are committed to promoting equal opportunities in chemistry through innovative projects.
