The Chemical Record Lecture (TCR Lecture) is a prestigious lectureship that began in 2002 shortly after the start of The Chemical Record and was established with a view to fostering international and interdisciplinary exchange. For the past decade the TCR Lecture has brought top researchers from around the world to Japan and has resulted in a series of outstanding lectures for a broad audience. The TCR Lecture has included an illustrious collection of chemists from a wide range of chemistry disciplines, including, just to name a few, Steven Ley, Gerhard Ertl, Yuan T. Lee, Bruno Scrosati, and Hisashi Yamamoto.

This year, the TCR Lecture will be given by an international luminary of supramolecular and polymer chemistry, Professor E. W. (Bert) Meijer of the Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands. Professor Meijer’s lecture will take place within the 92nd Annual Meeting of the Chemical Society of Japan as follows:

  • TCR Lecture, Prof. Bert Meijer
    March 27, 2012, 10:30-11:20
    Keio University, Hiyoshi/Yagami Campus
Bldg No. 6, Room H5 (3rd floor), Lecture No. 3H5-10
Lecture Title: Noncovalent Synthesis of Complex Supramolecular Systems

Bert Meijer is Distinguished University Professor in the Molecular Sciences and Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His main research interests are the design, synthesis, characterization, and possible applications of supramolecular architectures, with special emphasis on chirality, dendrimers, π-conjugated oligomers and polymers, hydrogen bonding architectures, and their use in functional materials and biomedical applications. He has published over 500 scientific papers and 25 patents.

Since 2006, he is chairman of the External Scientific Board of Royal DSM.  Bert Meijer is a member of many editorial advisory boards, including Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, Chemical Communications, Angewandte Chemie, Journal of the American Chemical Society and The Chemical Record. Bert Meijer received numerous awards, including the 1999 Silver Medal of the Macro UK group, the Spinoza award in 2001, the ACS award for Polymer Chemistry in 2006, the AkzoNobel Science Award 2010 and he is member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science.
