This largest event of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society) takes place every two years. This anniversary WiFo will celebrate 150 years of DChG (Deutsche Chemische Gesellschaft), one of the predecessor organizations of the GDCh. The GDCh follows in its tradition and will organize a colorful "Chemistry Festival" in Berlin.

Accompanied with the WiFo, there will be an "Angewandte-Festsymposium" to celebrate the occasion with speakers such as Emmanuelle Charpentier and Robert Grubbs. Angewandte Chemie is published by the GDCh.

The event will be opened on Sunday, September 10, by Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister of Education and Research, in conjunction with a talk by Nobel Laureate Roald Hoffmann. The 2nd ChemSlam of the GDCh wil be held at the Henry-Ford-Bau, FU Berlin, on September 11 at 13:40. On September 15, there will be a satellite symposium on "Thinking the Unthinkable" ("Das Undenkbare denken").

The EurJIC-Wöhler Young Investigator Prize will be awarded at the event to a young scientist of any nationality who has completed a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Chemistry for an excellent scientific publication in a field within Inorganic Chemistry. The selection will be made by a jury of representatives of universities and industry appointed by the board of the Wöhler-Vereinigung, as well as members of the Editorial Board of EurJIC. The prize is financially supported by ChemPubSoc Europe, the publishing arm of 16 European Chemical Societies.
