New GDCh President

Dr. Karsten Danielmeier, Covestro AG, Leverkusen, Germany, has been elected President of the German Chemical Society (GDCh; Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker) from 2022 to 2023. He succeeds Professor Peter Schreiner, University of Gießen, Germany. Katharina Uebele, DuPont Sustainable Solutions, Düsseldorf, Germany, has been elected Vice President for 2022 and 2023. With her, for the first time a young chemist was elected Vice President.

The team wants to continue to advance the modernization of the GDCh with a focus on digitization, diversity, and internationalization. Karsten Danielmeier is committed to ensure that the fact-based voice of science is much more widely accepted by decision-makers in politics and society. Another essential point of his commitment is the training of the next generation of scientists.

 

Karsten Danielmeier, born 1967 in Werl, Germany, studied chemistry at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Germany, and gained his Ph.D. there in 1995 in synthetic organic chemistry under the supervision of Eberhard Steckhan. In 1996, he joined Bayer AG, Leverkusen, Germany, where he held numerous positions with increasing responsibility in raw material research for coatings and adhesives in Germany and the USA. Most recently, he headed research for the Functional Films division in Leverkusen and was Senior Vice President for Research and Development in the Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties segment at Covestro, Leverkusen, since 2015.
