In this issue, M. Pumera et al. review the properties of black phosphorus from bulk material to monolayers. What perspectives does it offer as a nanomaterial? The Highlight deals with helically coiled graphene nanoribbons (W. A. Chalifoux).

In the Communications section, A. Bousseksou et al. present a bistable microelectromechanical system actuated by spin-crossover molecules (see picture). L. Cronin et al. repeated the Miller–Urey spark-discharge experiment in a fully deuterated environment to find a different product distribution. C. G. Salzmann et al. found white phosphorus encapsulated in carbon nanotubes to polymerize and form a range of chain structures. M. Keßler at al. elucidated the first step of S8 oxidation by identifying the crystal structure of its radical cation.
