In a Review, D. E. Bugaris and H.-C. zur Loye embark on materials discovery by flux crystal growth of quaternary and higher order oxides. How do you discover a material in which a new phenomenon is first observed? In Minireviews, N. K. Garg et al. discuss the class of welwitindolinones with bicyclo[4.3.1] cores and C. M. Gampe and E. M. Carreira write about arynes and cyclohexyne in natural product synthesis. The Highlights deal with structure prediction of stable and metastable phases (S. M. Woodley and A. A. Sokol) and the acylation of lysine (C. A. Olsen).

In the Communications section, C. Mazet et al. describe a short synthesis of a new class of chiral (P,N) ligands characterized by three distinct elements of chirality that allow for challenging Pd-catalyzed intramolecular asymmetric α-arylation. O. H. Han et al. demonstrate how the conversion of methanol in fuel cells can be monitored in situ by NMR spectroscopy. R. Tampé et al. present a photoactivatable variant of glutathione: GST fusion proteins can be assembled in situ at variable density and structures by laser-scanning activation (see picture).
