KCS-Wiley Young Chemist Award 2012

The KCS-Wiley Young Chemist Award is presented annually by the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) and John Wiley & Sons. Two young scientists of Korean nationality under the age of 40, holding a Ph.D. degree, are selected for outstanding achievements and contributions to the community. The award winners receive a certificate and a book voucher.

The 2012 award was presented to In Su Lee, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), and Dal-Hee Min, Seoul National University, both South Korea, during the KCS annual meeting on October 17–19, 2012.

In Su Lee studied chemistry at Seoul National University, gaining his Bachelor’s degree in 1995 and his Master’s degree in 1997. He finished his Ph.D. thesis at the same university on organometallic compounds with large hyperpolarizability and crystal engineering. From 2003 to 2005, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), USA. He was Assistant and Associate Professor between 2006 and 2011 at the Department of Applied Chemistry, Kyung Hee University, South Korea. Since 2011, he has been Associate professor at the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea.
His research is currently focused on the synthesis and modifications of nanoparticles.

Dal-Hee Min studied chemistry at Seoul National University, South Korea, obtaining her Master’s degree in 1999. She finished her Ph.D. thesis at the University of Chicago, USA, in 2005 and worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, between 2005 and 2007. From 2007–2011, she worked as an Associate Professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea. Since 2011, she has been an Associate Professor at Seoul National University, South Korea.
Her current research interests are bioapplications of nanomaterials, biochips, drug screening and drug delivery.
