In this issue's Review, N. H. Joensson and H. Andersson Svahn discuss how single-cell analysis can benefit from droplet microfluidics. What applications are conceivable in drug screening, and genetic and enzyme analysis? The Highlights deal with the o-alkylation of phenols with alcohols by condensation (J. W. Walton and J. M. J. Williams), vinyl and alkynyl azides as intermediates in modern syntheses (N. Jung and S. Bräse), and the GPCR research that resulted in the 2012 Nobel Prize for Chemistry (F. Hausch and F. Holsboer).

In the Communications section, M. A. Petrukhina et al. present multilayered supramolecular aggregates with lithium alkoxo nanobelts encapsulated between two tetrareduced corannulene bowls (see picture). L. Wang et al. describe the synthesis of biocompatible luminescent carbon nanodots, which may be useful in anticounterfeiting, and information storage and encryption. C. H. Larsen et al. show how CuII and TiIV catalyze the three-component coupling of unactivated ketones with a diverse range of amines and terminal alkynes to form tetrasubstituted propargylamines.
