Dr. Teresa Santos-Silva, NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal, has been awarded the Clara Immerwahr Award for her work on molybdenum enzymes. The award was presented at a special ceremony at Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), Germany, on 21 February.
Since its launch in 2011, the Clara Immerwahr Award has been presented annually to a young female scientist at an early stage of their career for outstanding achievements in catalysis research. The award is given by the Cluster of Excellence UniCat (Unifying Concepts in Catalysis), TU Berlin, and includes a 15,000 Euro endowment for a research stay at UniCat.
Teresa Santos-Silva studied chemistry at NOVA University of Lisbon, where she also obtained her Ph.D. in protein crystallography, in 2006. Currently, she is an Assistant Researcher there and recently obtained funding from the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT; Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia) Investigator Programme.
Santos-Silva’s research is focused on X-ray crystallography and its application to drug design and the study of molybdenum-related enzymes.
