Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, many contributions are dedicated to George Whitesides on the occasion of his 75th anniversary. R. Haag et al. review protein interactions with polymer coatings and biomaterials. What are the recent developments in analytics, biochemistry, and theory beyond Teflon? In a Minireview, E. Kumacheva et al. summarize microfluidic studies of carbon dioxide. The Highlight deals with crystal structures in light harvesting and charge separation in photosynthesis (O. Einsle).

In the Communications section, T. Ohba examines size-dependent water structures in carbon nanotubes (see picture). N. L. Abbott et al. report on the change in orientation of liquid crystals anchored on monolayers of chiral versus achiral molecules. M. Hartmann and A. Studer present the cyclizing radical carboiodination, carbotelluration, and carboaminooxylation of aryl amines, and K. O. Christie et al. succeeded in the preparation of trivalent and tetravalent manganese azides.
