Angewandte Chemie 14/2015: Overcoming Limitations

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

This week, D. S. Brauer reviews structure and properties of bioactive glasses: How can a structure-based design pave the way towards new implants for bone regeneration? The Highlight by R. Kourist deals with a new non-heme oxidase that produces 1-alkenes.

In the Communications section, S. Panke et al. describe a cascade reaction to overcome thermodynamic limitations in rare-sugar synthesis (see picture). M. Scheer et al. succeeded in the fixation and release of intact phosphorus and arsenic tetrahedra. T. Kuzuyama et al. report on an unusual terpene cyclization mechanism that involves a carbon–carbon bond rearrangement.
