The scientist we are looking for this time is a physician, but a pioneer in using chemical compounds as medicinal agents. He or she was born in Silesia during Prussian times, and later married the daughter of one of the most important manufacturers of linen and damask in Silesia.
The researcher worked with famous figures in immunology, and helped to develop a successful treatment against diphtheria. His or her later accomplishments were the result of extensive trial-and-error testing, but resulted in a life-saving treatment for one of the most common potentially fatal infectious diseases at the time.
