The scientist we are looking for this time is an eminent organic chemist. His or her biggest contribution was responsible for an entirely new subfield with tremendous impact on everyday live, but faced enormous opposition from the chemical community in its early years.

The chemist in question had originally wanted to study botany, but stuck with the chemistry courses that were meant to be a preparation. During World War I, he or she publicly critized chemical warfare, opposing especially Fritz Haber.
