Proton Affinity and Gas-Phase Basicity of SO2

Proton Affinity and Gas-Phase Basicity of SO2

Author: ChemViews

Giulia de Petris, Universita ’’La Sapienza’’, Roma, Italy, and colleagues have reported new experimental direct  measurements of the proton affinity and the gas-phase basicity of SO2, at relatively high pressure and 298 K, using ion-trap mass spectrometry and the thermokinetic method of Bouchoux.

These gas-phase experiments and theoretical calculations revise significantly downward the proton affinity and gas-phase basicity of sulfur dioxide.
