Heat Recovery at Finnish Industrial Facilities

Neste Oyj and Borealis Polymers Oy, in co-operation with the energy companies Fortum Power and Heat Oy, Helen Oy, Vantaan Energia Oy, and Porvoon Energia Oy – Borgå Energi Ab, will conduct a preliminary study on recovering and using excess heat generated at the Neste and Borealis industrial manufacturing facilities in Kilpilahti, Finland. Kilpilahti is about 15 km west of the center of Porvoo. It operates the largest port in Finland and has oil refining and chemical industry.

The study will focus on the technical and economic impacts of recovering excess heat at the facilities of Neste and Borealis in Kilpilahti and recirculating it into district heating systems in Porvoo and the Helsinki metropolitan region. The study will be conducted by Neste Engineering Solutions Oy in co-operation with Gaia Consulting Oy. They expect to release study results in spring 2019.
