Demand for Online Studies is Booming

Author: ChemistryViews.org

Since the end of March, when the COVID-19 pandemic has forced universities to close and send students home, almost all German universities have moved their courses of study to the Internet to be able to maintain teaching operations. The same trend is seen in other countries. In the US, for example, universities are undertaking ambitious online learning initiatives.

According to the MyGermanUniversity.com, a German database for English-language masters, the demand for online courses of study in Germany has risen by 210 % in recent weeks. This trend is particularly strong in economics and engineering, where online postgraduate courses, especially MBA and L.LM (Master of Laws), have been part of the market for years.

As a result of Corona, MyGermanUniversity expects a significant expansion of the range of courses on offer. So far, only 1.8 % of the English-language masters in Germany are available online. According to MyGermanUniversity, universities such as the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, the University of Applied Sciences (IUBH) in Bad Honnef, or the Technical University of Kaiserslautern are good examples of how much an expansion of the online offer is worthwhile for all parties involved.
