Linde Uses Hydropower to Produce Hydrogen

Author: ChemistryViews

Linde has announced the construction of a $17.3 million proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser plant at its Niagara Falls, NY, USA, facility to produce green hydrogen. The project is expected to be operational in 2023.

The hydrogen will be produced through electrolysis using hydropower generated by the Niagara Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in the world. The electric current splits water into hydrogen and oxygen. Water and heat are the byproducts.

The hydrogen will be delivered to customers via the existing infrastructure at Linde’s Niagara Falls site.
