  • Bernard Meunier New President of French Académie des Sciences

Dr. Bernard Meunier, Vice-President of the French Académie des Sciences since 2013, started his two-year mandate as President on January 1st.

Dr. Bernard Meunier (68) is Emeritus Research Director at the CNRS Coordination chemistry Laboratory, Toulouse, France. He gained his PhD (docteur d’état) from the University of Paris-XI, France, in 1977.
Meunier was President of CNRS from 2004 to 2006 and currently is the Chair of Technological Innovation at Collège de France, Paris, France. His research focused on bioinspired chemistry, and especially oxidation catalysis.

  • Roland Gerner New Heraeus CTO

The supervisory board of Heraeus has appointed Dr. Roland Gerner, who until now was the Managing Director of Heraeus Precious Metals GmbH, as part of the Board of Management of Heraeus Holding, effective from 1st January 2015. He will take on the role of Chief Technical Officer (CTO). With the appointment of Roland Gerner the Heraeus Board of Management will in future be a quartet.

Dr. Roland Gerner (60; pictured) has worked for Heraeus since 2001. For many years, the chemist was in charge of the former W.C. Heraeus and, after their separation, of the Business Group Heraeus Precious Metals.

  • Bhavesh V. “Bob” Patel New LyondellBasell CEO

LyondellBasell announced that the Supervisory Board has appointed Bhavesh V. “Bob” Patel Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 12, 2015. Patel succeeds James L. Gallogly, who previously announced his plan to retire.

Bhavesh V. “Bob” Patel has worked for LyondellBasell since March 2010. After serving in several positions at Chevron Corporation, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, and LyondellBasell, he has served as Executive Vice President, Olefins and Polyolefins (O&P) – Europe, Asia & International and Technology since October 2013.
