The Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh) is the largest chemical society in continental Europe with approx. 28 000 members from academia, industry and other areas. The GDCh supports chemistry in teaching, research and application and promotes the understanding of chemistry to the public. The society, a registered charity, was founded in 1949 but builds on a long tradition that began in 1867 when its predecessor organization, the Deutsche Chemische Gesellschaft, was founded in Berlin. The GDCh is also a funding member of ChemPubSoc Europe.
Editor Nachrichten aus der Chemie
Christian Remenyi is the science editor of Nachrichten aus der Chemie (News from Chemistry), the monthly membership journal of the German Chemical Society (GDCh). He was born in 1977 and studied chemistry at Würzburg University from 1997 to 2002. During his PhD thesis in theoretical inorganic chemistry he became interested in scientific publishing and science journalism. After finishing his dissertation in 2006 he joined the trainee program "science journalism" organized by the Bertelsmann Foundation and BASF.
In June 2007 he joined the editorial office of Nachrichten aus der Chemie.
