Activating a Peroxo Ligand for C−O Bond Formation

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): M. Pilar del Río, Paula Abril, José A. López, Mariona Sodupe, Agustí Lledós, Miguel A. Ciriano, Cristina Tejel

Abstract Dioxygen activation for effective C−O bond formation in the coordination sphere of a metal is a long‐standing challenge in chemistry for which the design of catalysts for oxygenations is slowed down by the complicated, and sometimes poorly understood, mechanistic panorama. In this context, olefin–peroxide complexes could be valuable models for the study of such reactions. Herein, we showcase the isolation of rare “Ir(cod)(peroxide)” complexes (cod=1,5‐cyclooctadiene) from reactions...

Boranchemie aus einer neuen Perspektive: Nukleophilie der B‐H‐Bindungselektronen

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Qianyi Zhao, Rian D. Dewhurst, Holger Braunschweig, Xuenian Chen

EPR Spectroscopy Detects Various Active State Conformations of the Transcriptional Regulator CueR

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Hila Sameach, Shreya Ghosh, Lada Gevorkyan‐Airapetov, Sunil Saxena, Sharon Ruthstein

Abstract The interactions between proteins and their specific DNA sequences are the basis of many cellular processes. Hence, developing methods to build an atomic level picture of these interactions helps improve our understanding of key cellular mechanisms. CueR is an Escherichia coli copper‐sensing transcription regulator. The inhibition of copper‐sensing transcription regulators can kill pathogens, without harming the host. Several spectroscopic studies and crystallographic data have...

Anchoring an Artificial Solid–Electrolyte Interphase Layer on a 3D Current Collector for High‐Performance Lithium Anodes

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Panlong Li, Xiaoli Dong, Chao Li, Jingyuan Liu, Yao Liu, Wuliang Feng, Congxiao Wang, Yonggang Wang, Yongyao Xia

Abstract The application of Li anodes is hindered by dendrite growth and side reactions between Li and electrolyte, despite its high capacity and low potential. A simple approach for this challenge is now demonstrated. In our strategy, the garnet‐type Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO)‐based artificial solid–electrolyte interphase (SEI) is anchored on Cu foam by sintering the Cu foam coated with LLZTO particles. The heat treatment leads to the interdiffusion of Cu and Ta2O5 at the Cu/LLZTO...

A quantitative LC–MS/MS method for determination of a small molecule agonist of EphA2 in mouse plasma and brain tissue

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Bo Zhong, Yaxin Li, Nethrie Idippily, Aaron Petty, Bin Su, Bingcheng Wang

Abstract Compound 27 {1, 12‐bis[4‐(4‐amino‐6,7‐dimethoxyquinazolin‐2‐yl)piperazin‐1‐yl]dodecane‐1,12‐dione} is a novel small molecule agonist of EphA2 receptor tyrosine kinase. It showed much improved activity for the activation of EphA2 receptor compared with the parental compound doxazosin. To support further pharmacological and toxicological studies of the compound, a method using liquid chromatography and electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) has been developed for...

Factors Affecting the Study of Chemistry in Different Countries Around the World: Findings from an International Survey

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Ron Blonder, Rachel Mamlok‐Naaman

Abstract Improving teaching and student learning in chemistry classrooms is an important goal that is constantly researched. Several comparative studies of science teaching have been carried out on different parameters, e. g. misconceptions which science teachers and students may have regarding the scientific concepts they learn and teach. Here we describe science teaching in general, and chemistry teaching in particular, in 12 countries including Israel. Different parameters are compared,...

Palladium/Norbornene‐Catalyzed Indenone Synthesis from Simple Aryl Iodides: Concise Syntheses of Pauciflorol F and Acredinone A

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Feipeng Liu, Zhe Dong, Jianchun Wang, Guangbin Dong

Abstract To show the synthetic utility of palladium/norbornene (Pd/NBE) cooperative catalysis, here we report concise syntheses of indenone‐based natural products, pauciflorol F and acredinone A, which are enabled by direct annulation between aryl iodides and unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydrides. Compared to the previous indenone‐preparation approaches, this method allows simple aryl iodides to be used as substrates with complete control of the regioselectivity. The total synthesis of...

PdII‐Catalyzed Enantioselective C(sp3)−H Activation/Cross‐Coupling Reactions of Free Carboxylic Acids

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Liang Hu, Peng‐Xiang Shen, Qian Shao, Kai Hong, Jennifer X. Qiao, Jin‐Quan Yu

Abstract PdII‐catalyzed enantioselective C(sp3)−H cross‐coupling of free carboxylic acids with organoborons has been realized using either mono‐protected amino acid (MPAA) ligands or mono‐protected aminoethyl amine (MPAAM) ligands. A diverse range of aryl‐ and vinyl‐boron reagents can be used as coupling partners to provide chiral carboxylic acids. This reaction provides an alternative approach to the enantioselective synthesis of cyclopropanecarboxylic acids and cyclobutanecarboxylic acids...

Precise In Vivo Inflammation Imaging Using In Situ Responsive Cross‐linking of Glutathione‐Modified Ultra‐Small NIR‐II Lanthanide Nanoparticles

Published: 16 January 2019

Author(s): Mengyao Zhao, Rui Wang, Benhao Li, Yong Fan, Yifan Wu, Xinyan Zhu, Fan Zhang

Abstract To improve the bioimaging signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR), long‐term imaging capability, and decrease the potential biotoxicity, an in vivo cross‐linking strategy was developed by using sub‐10 nm, glutathione‐modified, lanthanide nanoprobes. After administration, the nanoprobes cross‐link in response to reactive oxygen species (ROS) at the inflamed area and enable the quick imaging of ROS in the second near‐infrared (NIR‐II) window. These nanoprobes could be rapidly excreted due to their...
