Enhancement of Anomalous Hall Effect via Interfacial Scattering in Metal‐Organic Semiconductor Fex(C60)1−x Granular Films Near the Metal‐Insulator Transition

Published: 24 June 2019

Author(s): Lingcheng Zheng, Zhihao He, Rui Zhang, Jiangtao Qu, Deqiang Feng, Jie He, Hansheng Chen, Fan Yun, Yahui Cheng, Zhiqing Li, Hui Liu, Xixiang Zhang, Rongkun Zheng

Abstract Ferromagnetic metal‐insulator granular films suffer from superparamagnetism, which causes a decrease in the values and temperature stabilities of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE). In this work, organic semiconductor (OSC) fullerene (C60), instead of the traditional inorganic insulators, is used as the matrix and a series of Fex(C60)1−x (x = 0.58–0.91) granular films are fabricated. By utilizing the strong metal/OSC interfacial hybridization, the temperature stability of both...

Infrared Glass–Ceramics with Multidispersion and Gradient Refractive Index Attributes

Published: 24 June 2019

Author(s): Laura Sisken, Myungkoo Kang, Johann M. Veras, Charmayne Lonergan, Andrew Buff, Anupama Yadav, Devon McClane, Cesar Blanco, Clara Rivero‐Baleine, Theresa S. Mayer, Kathleen A. Richardson

Abstract Infrared (IR) glass–ceramics (GCs) hold the potential to dramatically expand the range of optical material solutions available for use in bulk and planar optical systems in the IR. Current material solutions are limited to single‐ or polycrystalline materials and traditional IR‐transparent optical glasses. GCs that can be processed with spatial control and extent of induced crystallization present the opportunity to realize an effective refractive index variation, enabling arbitrary...

Role of Interface Chemistry in Opening New Radiative Pathways in InP/CdSe Giant Quantum Dots with Blinking‐Suppressed Two‐Color Emission

Published: 24 June 2019

Author(s): Allison M. Dennis, Matthew R. Buck, Feng Wang, Nicolai F. Hartmann, Somak Majumder, Joanna L. Casson, John D. Watt, Stephen K. Doorn, Han Htoon, Milan Sykora, Jennifer A. Hollingsworth

Abstract InP/CdSe core/thick‐shell “giant” quantum dots (gQDs) that exhibit blinking‐suppressed two‐color excitonic emission have been synthesized and optically characterized. These type II heterostructures exhibit photoluminescence from both a charge‐separated, near‐infrared type II excitonic state, and a shell‐localized visible‐color excitonic state. Infrared emission is intrinsic to the type II QD, while visible emission can either be eliminated or enhanced through chemical modification of...

Anisotropic Thermal Boundary Resistance across 2D Black Phosphorus: Experiment and Atomistic Modeling of Interfacial Energy Transport

Published: 24 June 2019

Author(s): Man Li, Joon Sang Kang, Huu Duy Nguyen, Huan Wu, Toshihiro Aoki, Yongjie Hu

Abstract Interfacial thermal boundary resistance (TBR) plays a critical role in near‐junction thermal management of modern electronics. In particular, TBR can dominate heat dissipation and has become increasingly important due to the continuous emergence of novel nanomaterials with promising electronic and thermal applications. A highly anisotropic TBR across a prototype 2D material, i.e., black phosphorus, is reported through a crystal‐orientation‐dependent interfacial transport study. The...

Extrinsic Green Photoluminescence from the Edges of 2D Cesium Lead Halides

Published: 24 June 2019

Author(s): Chong Wang, Yanan Wang, Xinghua Su, Viktor G. Hadjiev, Shenyu Dai, Zhaojun Qin, Hector A. Calderon Benavides, Yizhou Ni, Qiang Li, Jie Jian, Md. Kamrul Alam, Haiyan Wang, Francisco C. Robles Hernandez, Yan Yao, Shuo Chen, Qingkai Yu, Guoying Feng, Zhiming Wang, Jiming Bao

Abstract Since the first report of the green emission of 2D all‐inorganic CsPb2Br5, its bandgap and photoluminescence (PL) origin have generated intense debate and remained controversial. After the discovery that PL centers occupy only specific morphological structures in CsPb2Br5, a two‐step highly sensitive and noninvasive optical technique is employed to resolve the controversy. Same‐spot Raman‐PL as a static property–structure probe reveals that CsPbBr3 nanocrystals are contributing to the...

Recycling of crosslinked high‐density polyethylene through compression molding

Published: 23 June 2019

Author(s): Jardel Nobrega Santos, Raghavan Jayaraman

ABSTRACT Crosslinkable high‐density polyethylene (XHDPE) is used to manufacture large and rigid products such as fuel tanks using rotomolding. Currently, defective and postconsumer parts are not recycled and sent to landfills. Hence, recycling of this material through compression molding is the objective of this study. Thermal analysis revealed that the extent of crosslinking varied across the thickness of the rotomolded part due to the role played by oxygen in air. Despite the crosslinking,...

Effect of Sodium Chloride on the Structure and Properties of Fried Starch

Published: 23 June 2019

Author(s): Miaomiao Shi, Mingyue Zhang, Liuzhi Yang, Dan Li, Yizhe Yan, Xianqing Huang, Yanqi Liu

The effects of NaCl on the structure and properties of fried starch samples are investigated in the present study. Potato starches with different NaCl contents (0, 1, 3, 5, and 7%; w/w) are fried at 180 °C for 3 min. In the presence of NaCl, some starch samples expanded, ruptured, and glued together. The granule structure changes of fried starch become more significant with the increasing NaCl content. Compared to native starch, the crystal structure of fried starches is destroyed according to...

Rapid Preparation of Oxidized Starch with High Carbonyl Contents Using NaBrO as Oxidizer

Published: 23 June 2019

Author(s): Jinhui Yang, Man Wang, Yinan Zhang, Xiangxiang Jia, Yanxue Chen, Tai Liu, Ziyi Zhang, Hongzhao Yang, Qi Wu, Huining Xiao

In this work, oxidized starch with high carbonyl contents is obtained in a rather simple way using corn starch as raw material and NaBrO as an oxidizer. The produced oxidized starch is evaluated by measuring the carboxyl content, carbonyl content, yield, and the intrinsic viscosity. The influences of pH, reaction time, temperature and oxidizer content on carbonyl content, carboxyl content, intrinsic viscosity, and yield of the oxidized starch are investigated in detail. It is found that the...

Resistant Starch‐Supplemented Udon Noodles Prevent Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Induce Intestinal Immunoglobulin‐A Secretion in Mice

Published: 23 June 2019

Author(s): Kenji Matsumoto, Hiroki Shimada, Hiroki Morishima, Reina Akahori, Naotaka Kida

Resistant starch (RS) has received considerable attention recently because of its potential benefits upon glucose/lipid metabolism and intestinal conditions. RS‐supplemented Udon noodles (RS‐Udon) are prepared and their functional properties are compared with those of Udon noodles without RS (C‐Udon) in C57BL/6J mice. Both Udon samples are used after lyophilization. Single administration (250 mg kg−1 body weight, p.o.) of RS‐Udon tends to increase blood glucose levels less than that elicited...

Published: 23 June 2019

Author(s): Saeed A. Asiri, Eckhard Flöter, Marco Ulbrich

The debranching enzyme pullulanase (PUL) is used in order to conduct a partial conversion of a regular granular potato starch (PS) improving the techno‐functional properties when used as a gelling agent. The starch is hydrolyzed systematically by grading the amount of a technical enzyme solution added (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 20, and 40 mL PUL solution) resulting 400 g of a 20% (w/w) suspension. Morphological characteristics of the granules (scanning electron microscopy, SEM), swelling behavior...
