Mapping the initial corrosion activity of aluminium alloy 2024‐T3 in diluted substitute ocean water by localized electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Gloria Acosta, Lucien Veleva, Daniel de la Fuente

This work deals with the initial localized corrosion activity of AA2024‐T3 exposed up to 24 h in diluted substitute ocean water, simulating marine environment of low chloride contamination. The pits appeared since the first hour at the periphery of CuFeMn particles and Mg‐ions release was found to be 0.5 mg L−1, originated from the S‐phase (Al2CuMg). Fine particles were detached from the corrosion layer, composed of AlCl3 · 6H2O...

Influence of rare earths alloying addition on the corrosion behavior of Zn in neutral aerated sodium chloride solution

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Francesco Rosalbino, Daniele Macciò, Giorgio Scavino, Adriana Saccone

The effect of rare earth metals (Gd, Dy, Er,) addition on the corrosion behavior of Zn has been investigated. The corrosion resistance of Zn99Gd1, Zn99Dy1, and Zn99Er1 (at%) alloys has been assessed by open circuit potential and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements carried out in a 0.1 M NaCl solution, at approximately neutral pH, without stirring and in contact with the air. For comparison, the ...

Comparative study of devices for hydrogen permeation measurements

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Darya Rudomilova, Tomáš Petrek, Tomáš Prošek, Václav Šefl, Hubert Duchaczek, Florian Zwettler, Andreas Muhr, Gerald Luckeneder

New devices for measurement of hydrogen permeability in steels using electric resistance sensors have been assessed. Diffusion coefficients of two types of advanced high strength steels obtained with the traditional electrochemical permeation technique using the Devanathan–Stachurski permeation setup and the novel techniques are compared. The EPT technique is found to be more appropriate for laboratory assessment of...

The Gold(I)‐Mediated Domino Reaction to Fused Diphenyl Phosphoniumfluorenes: Mechanistic Consequences for Gold‐Catalyzed Hydroarylations and Application in Solar Cells

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Sebastian Arndt, Jan Borstelmann, Rebeka Eshagh Saatlo, Patrick W. Antoni, Frank Rominger, Matthias Rudolph, Qingzhi An, Yana Vaynzof, A. Stephen K. Hashmi

Abstract Invited for the cover of this issue are the groups of Yana Vaynzof and A. Stephen K. Hashmi at Heidelberg University. The image depicts a golden billiard ball that hits phosphadiine, which undergoes phosphinoauration. Subsequently, 6‐endo‐dig cyclization yields a gold‐phosphafluorene complex. A study on microstructure evolution and corrosion resistance of cutting layer metal of 7055 aluminum alloy based on extreme environment

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Ping Zhang, Youqiang Wang, Weihui Li, Qing Wang, Yuanyuan Li

In order to evaluate the mechanism of microstructure evolution and corrosion resistance of 7055 aluminum alloy in extreme environment, 7055 aluminum alloy which was subjected to T6I4 heat treatment was selected as the research object. High speed machining experiments were performed at low temperature (−60 °C) and high temperature (350 °C). The experimental results show that the dislocation density at low temperature...

Trimethyl Orthoacetate and Ethylene Glycol Mono‐Vinyl Ether as Enolate Surrogates in Enantioselective Iridium‐Catalyzed Allylation

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Yeshua Sempere, Erick M. Carreira

Abstract Trimethyl orthoacetate and ethylene glycol mono‐vinyl ether are employed in iridium‐catalyzed enantioselective allylation reactions. The method documented enables their convenient use as surrogates for silyl ketene acetals and silyl enol ethers to prepare γ,δ‐unsaturated esters and protected aldehydes with excellent enantioselectivity. The utility of this novel method has been demonstrated by its implementation in a formal...

Application feasibility of HRB400 steel in seawater and marine sand concrete

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Baihui Shang, Ying Li

Due to the shortage of fresh water and river sand in coastal areas, seawater, and marine sand sometimes must be used in the preparation of concrete for construction. Thus, the corrosion of steel rebar in seawater and marine sand concrete cannot be ignored. In this study, the feasibility of using HRB400 steel in seawater and marine sand concrete was determined based on steel rebar corrosion. Electrochemical methods...

Corrosion behavior of ultrafine‐grained copper processed by equal channel angular pressing in simulated sea water

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Daoshuan Yang, Yuecheng Dong, Hui Chang, Igor Alexandrov, Feng Li, Jingtao Wang, Zhenhua Dan

The corrosion behavior of copper fabricated by equal channel angular pressing and further annealing was systematically investigated in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and weight loss method. Microstructure and corroded surface morphologies were observed by electron backscattered diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Results...

Experimentelle Bestimmung des aktiven Zentrums im heteronuklearen Redox‐System [AlVO x ] +. /CO/N 2 O ( x= 3, 4) durch Gasphasen‐Infrarotspektroskopie

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Sreekanta Debnath, Harald Knorke, Wieland Schöllkopf, Shaodong Zhou, Knut R. Asmis, Helmut Schwarz

Published: 23 May 2018

Author(s): Liping Chen, Xia Sheng, Dandan Wang, Jie Liu, Ruize Sun, Lei Jiang, Xinjian Feng

Abstract The design and fabrication of bio‐photoelectrodes that simultaneously possess rapid charge and gas‐phase mass transport abilities are highly desirable for the development of high‐performance bio‐photoelectrochemical assay systems. Here, a solid–liquid–air triphase bio‐photoelectrode is demonstrated by immobilizing glucose oxidase, a model redox active enzyme, onto 1D single crystalline TiO2 nanowire arrays grown upon a...
