Metal‐Free Oxidative Annulation/Cyclization of 1,6‐Enynes for the Synthesis of 4‐Carbonylquinolines

Abstract Herein we report on the development of a metal‐free oxidative annulation reaction of 1,6‐enynes, leading to 4‐carbonylquinolines by using dioxygen as a green sustainable oxidant. Key advances include the use of readily available tert‐butyl nitrite (TBN) to promote radical annulation of 1,6‐enynes and easy‐to‐handle reaction conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies including radical capture reactions and isotope labelling experiments are also conducted.

Abstract A series of NNN pincer‐ruthenium complexes (R2NNN)RuCl2(PPh3) (R=Cyclohexyl (Cy), t‐butyl (tBu), i‐propyl (iPr) and phenyl (Ph)) have been synthesized and characterized. These pincer‐ruthenium complexes have been used to catalyse the Kharasch addition or atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) of carbon tetrachloride to styrene. Cobalt(III)‐Catalyzed, DMSO‐Involved, and TFA‐Controlled Regioselective C−H Functionalization of Anilines with Alkynes for Specific Assembly of 3‐Arylquinolines

Abstract Herein, a novel cobalt(III)‐catalyzed and TFA‐controlled [3+2+1] cyclization of diverse anilines and terminal alkynes has been realized by using DMSO as both the solvent and the C1 source, which led to the specific synthesis of privileged 3‐arylquinolines in one pot and regioselectively. Mechanistic investigations revealed that this versatile transformation might be initiated with a C−H activation process and with a 2‐vinylbenzenamine species as the active intermediate.

Rhodium‐Catalyzed C−H Functionalization of N‐(2‐Pyrimidyl)indole with Internal Alkynes: Formation of Unexpected Products by Regulating the Amount of Silver Acetate

Abstract Herein we disclose an uncommon Rhodium(III)‐catalyzed C2‐selective functionalization of N‐(2‐Pyrimidyl)indole with internal alkynes. Excess amounts of silver acetate (5.0 equiv.) were found to be crucial for the efficient C2 naphthylation and C2 enol esterification of indoles. In sharp contrast, 2.0 equivalents of silver acetate resulted in the C−H alkenylation only. Control experiments were also carried out to briefly study the mechanism of this transformation.

Iodine‐Mediated Synthesis of Methylthio‐Substituted Catechols from Cyclohexanones

Abstract A novel and efficient I2‐mediated direct synthesis of methylthio‐substituted catechols from cyclohexanones was developed. Various cyclohexanones underwent oxygenation, methylthiolation, and dehydrogenative aromatization in one pot to form the desired products in moderate to good yields. DMSO was utilized as the solvent, oxygen source, and methylthiolation agent. A possible reaction mechanism is proposed.
