Quantitative determination of macroelement and microelement content of fresh and processed bamboo shoots by wavelength dispersive X‐ray fluorescence spectrometry

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Harjit Kaur Bajwa, Oinam Santosh, Ashwani Koul, M.S. Bisht, Chongtham Nirmala

Bamboo shoots are considered as healthy and nutritional food as they supply proteins, dietary fiber, phenols, phytosterols, vitamins, and minerals in considerable quantities and capture a novel place in the spectrum of plant foods. Besides nutrients and bioactive compounds, shoots also contain antinutrient (cyanogen) that needs to be removed by adequate processing prior to consumption. This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of fermentation, brine preservation, and boiling on...

An Organocatalytic Two‐atom Ring Expansion Approach to Optically Active Glutarimides

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Yun‐Long Wei, Yajun Ren, Damien Mailhol, Michel Rajzmann, Jean Rodriguez, Yoann Coquerel

Abstract An original two‐step organocatalytic synthesis of optically active glutarimides from 2‐oxocyclobutane carboxamides is described featuring an isothiourea‐catalyzed two‐atom ring‐expansive rearrangement.

Metal‐Free Oxidative Annulation/Cyclization of 1,6‐Enynes for the Synthesis of 4‐Carbonylquinolines

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Xiao‐Feng Xia, Wei He, Dawei Wang

Abstract Herein we report on the development of a metal‐free oxidative annulation reaction of 1,6‐enynes, leading to 4‐carbonylquinolines by using dioxygen as a green sustainable oxidant. Key advances include the use of readily available tert‐butyl nitrite (TBN) to promote radical annulation of 1,6‐enynes and easy‐to‐handle reaction conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies including radical capture reactions and isotope labelling experiments are also conducted.

Efficient Pincer‐Ruthenium Catalysts for Kharasch Addition of Carbon Tetrachloride to Styrene

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Kanu Das, Moumita Dutta, Babulal Das, Hemant Kumar Srivastava, Akshai Kumar

Abstract A series of NNN pincer‐ruthenium complexes (R2NNN)RuCl2(PPh3) (R=Cyclohexyl (Cy), t‐butyl (tBu), i‐propyl (iPr) and phenyl (Ph)) have been synthesized and characterized. These pincer‐ruthenium complexes have been used to catalyse the Kharasch addition or atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) of carbon tetrachloride to styrene. Among the pincer‐ruthenium catalysts screened for the Kharasch addition, the catalytic activity followed the order (Cy2NNN)RuCl2(PPh3)...

Cobalt(III)‐Catalyzed, DMSO‐Involved, and TFA‐Controlled Regioselective C−H Functionalization of Anilines with Alkynes for Specific Assembly of 3‐Arylquinolines

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Peiquan Zhang, Yurong Yang, Zhiyong Chen, Zhang Xu, Xuefeng Xu, Zhi Zhou, Xiyong Yu, Wei Yi

Abstract Herein, a novel cobalt(III)‐catalyzed and TFA‐controlled [3+2+1] cyclization of diverse anilines and terminal alkynes has been realized by using DMSO as both the solvent and the C1 source, which led to the specific synthesis of privileged 3‐arylquinolines in one pot and regioselectively. Mechanistic investigations revealed that this versatile transformation might be initiated with a C−H activation process and with a 2‐vinylbenzenamine species as the active intermediate.

Rhodium‐Catalyzed C−H Functionalization of N‐(2‐Pyrimidyl)indole with Internal Alkynes: Formation of Unexpected Products by Regulating the Amount of Silver Acetate

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Tongyu Li, Zhuo Wang, Chen Chen, Bolin Zhu

Abstract Herein we disclose an uncommon Rhodium(III)‐catalyzed C2‐selective functionalization of N‐(2‐Pyrimidyl)indole with internal alkynes. Excess amounts of silver acetate (5.0 equiv.) were found to be crucial for the efficient C2 naphthylation and C2 enol esterification of indoles. In sharp contrast, 2.0 equivalents of silver acetate resulted in the C−H alkenylation only. Control experiments were also carried out to briefly study the mechanism of this transformation.

Iodine‐Mediated Synthesis of Methylthio‐Substituted Catechols from Cyclohexanones

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Yue‐Hua Wu, Nai‐Xing Wang, Tong Zhang, Zhan Yan, Bao‐Cai Xu, Joan Inoa, Yalan Xing

Abstract A novel and efficient I2‐mediated direct synthesis of methylthio‐substituted catechols from cyclohexanones was developed. Various cyclohexanones underwent oxygenation, methylthiolation, and dehydrogenative aromatization in one pot to form the desired products in moderate to good yields. DMSO was utilized as the solvent, oxygen source, and methylthiolation agent. A possible reaction mechanism is proposed.

Brønsted Acid Mediated Synthesis and Properties of Dibenzoacridine Derivatives

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Anika Flader, Lars Ohlendorf, Peter Ehlers, Erich Ammon, Alexander Villinger, Peter Langer

Abstract An efficient and convenient method for the synthesis of dibenzo[c,h]acridine derivatives via electrophilic cycloisomerisation mediated by methanesulfonic acid has been developed. This method provides the desired acridines in moderate to very good yields introducing various substituents in positions 2 and 6 as well as on the dibenzo[c,h]acridine scaffold. Photophysical and electrochemical properties have been investigated for selected products by UV/Vis and CV measurements which have...

Bukhvalov, Yu Jie Zheng, Rebekah Chua, Alpha T. N'Diaye, Simon A. Morton, Chao‐Yao Yang, Kui‐Hon Ou Yang, Piero Torelli, Wei Chen, Kuan Eng Johnson Goh, Jun Ding, Minn‐Tsong Lin, Geert Brocks, Michel P. de Jong, Antonio H. Castro Neto, Andrew Thye Shen Wee

Abstract Monolayer VSe2, featuring both charge density wave and magnetism phenomena, represents a unique van der Waals magnet in the family of metallic 2D transition‐metal dichalcogenides (2D‐TMDs). Herein, by means of in situ microscopy and spectroscopic techniques, including scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, synchrotron X‐ray and angle‐resolved photoemission, and X‐ray absorption, direct spectroscopic signatures are established, that identify the metallic 1T‐phase and vanadium 3d1...

Single‐Stimulus‐Induced Modulation of Multiple Optical Properties

Published: 18 April 2019

Author(s): Hai Li, Chaoran Li, Wei Sun, Yuzhu Wang, Wenqiang Hua, Jingjing Liu, Shumin Zhang, Zhijie Chen, Shenghua Wang, Zhiyi Wu, Qishan Zhu, Rujun Tang, Jia Yu, Le He, Geoffrey A. Ozin, Xiaohong Zhang

Abstract Stimuli‐responsive smart optical materials hold great promise for applications in active optics, display, sensing, energy conversion, military camouflage, and artificial intelligence. However, their applications are greatly restricted by the difficulty of tuning different optical properties within the same material, especially by a single stimulus. Here, magnetic modulations of multiple optical properties are demonstrated in a crystalline colloidal array (CCA) of magnetic nanorods....
