Ag decorated G‐C3N4/black titanium oxides composite for the destruction of environmental pollutant under solar irradiation

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Dilshad Masih, Yuanyu Ma, Sohrab Rohani

Research on the synthesis of advanced composite materials is an important area of research on the visible‐active photodegradation of environmental pollutants. Novel hybridized structures of graphitic carbon nitride (g‐C3N4) are synthesized by a facile one‐step in‐situ method. Black titanium oxides, TiO, Ti2O 3, a mixture of TiO + Ti2O3, and a reference material, white TiO2 P25, are used for the synthesis of the hybridized g‐C3N4 and further decorated with Ag nanoparticles. Physicochemical and...

Active disturbance rejection generalized predictive control for a high purity distillation column process with time delay

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Qinglin Sun, Mingwei Sun, Zengqiang Chen, Yun Cheng

High purity distillation processes have been widely used in the chemical industry. These processes have unique characteristics including higher order, nonlinearity, strong coupling, and time delay. In order to overcome these control issues, an active disturbance rejection generalized predictive control strategy is designed for the distillation column with time delay. The strategy combines the structures of both active disturbance rejection control and generalized predictive control. A delayed...

Treatment of the real boiler cleaning wastewater in an anaerobic fluidized bed microbial fuel cell: Organic matter degradation, bioelectrochemistry, and kinetics

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Jiating Wang, Xinmin Liu

A single chambered air cathode anaerobic fluidized bed microbial fuel cell (AFB‐MFC) was simultaneously used to dispose of the real boiler cleaning wastewater (BCW) containing a high concentration of citric acid and to generate renewable energy. At the temperature of 40 °C and flow rate of 5.22 mL/s, the removal efficiency and power density were improved in AFB‐MFC with the abiotic cathode of the Pt/C modified carbon cloth. With the real boiler cleaning wastewater fed as substrate, the maximal...

Prediction of pressure drop and minimum spouting velocity in draft tube conical spouted beds using genetic programming approach

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Seyyed Hossein Hosseini, Mojtaba Karami, Haritz Altzibar, Martin Olazar

The smart method of genetic programming (GP) is used to predict the operating pressure drop (ΔPs) and the minimum spouting velocity ums for conical spouted beds (CSBs) equipped with nonporous draft tubes. Accordingly, six dimensionless variables have been taken as model inputs, including crucial parameters associated with the bed and tube geometric and operating conditions. Two general correlations comprising almost all constitutive and operating variables have been derived for the first time...

Tackling Remote sp3 C−H Functionalization via Ni‐Catalyzed “chain‐walking” Reactions

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Daniel Janssen‐Müller, Basudev Sahoo, Shang‐Zheng Sun, Ruben Martin

Abstract Nickel catalysts have recently played an important role for rapidly and reliably converting feedstock chemicals into valuable compounds of interest for both pharmaceutical and academic laboratories. Herein, we summarize the recent advances on the ability of nickel catalysts to trigger olefin isomerization via “chain‐walking”, causing a displacement of the nickel catalyst throughout the alkyl chain while opening up new grounds for forging C−C and C‐heteroatom linkages at remote, yet...

Reflections on the Evolution of Smart Polymers

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Elizabeth R. Gillies

Abstract Since Staudinger's recognition that polymers were long chain molecules with covalent bonds between repeating units, the field has evolved tremendously. In addition to their many structural roles, polymers have been developed to exhibit “smart” stimuli‐responsive behavior. This article will describe the evolution of selected classes of smart polymers including those responsive to changes in pH, temperature, light, and mechanical stimuli, as well as self‐immolative polymers and their...

Regioselective Arylboration of 1,3‐Butadiene

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Allison M. Bergmann, Stephen R. Sardini, Kevin B. Smith, M. Kevin Brown

Abstract A method for the regioselective 1,2‐arylboration of 1,3‐butadiene, a feedstock chemical, is reported. The reactions result in the formation of products that can be easily elaborated to other structures. The mechanistic details of this process are also discussed.

Poly(Lactide‐Co‐Glycolide) Nanoparticles Co‐Loaded with Chlorophyllin and Quantum Dots as Photodynamic Therapy Agents

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Marianna Galliani, Giovanni Signore

Abstract Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an approach to treating cancer and involves light‐induced activation of a photosensitizer that triggers the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in targeted cells and subsequent cell death. Examples of photosensitizers are porphyrins, including the natural compound chlorophyll. These molecules can be delivered alone or co‐formulated with an agent, such as quantum dots (QDs), that is able to excite them through a fluorescence resonance energy...

Chiral Resolution of a Mn3+ Spin Crossover Complex

Published: 21 August 2019

Author(s): Vibe B. Jakobsen, Luke O'Brien, Grace G. Morgan, Anne‐Laure Barra, Helge Müller‐Bunz, Ghenadie Novitchi

Enantiopure Δ and Λ forms of the spin crossover Mn3+ chelate complex [Mn{5‐OCF3‐sal2(323)}]+ were prepared by co‐crystallization with the (R,R) and (S,S) forms of the chiral spiroborate anion bis[1,1′‐binaphthyl‐2,2′‐diolato]boron. The absolute structures of the enantiomers were established by X‐ray crystallography at 100 K and at 293 K. The enantiomeric purity of the Δ and Λ forms in acetonitrile solution was confirmed by circular dichroism spectroscopy in the UV/Vis range. Both enantiomers...
