Anion‐Responsive π‐Electronic Systems Exhibiting Diverse Conformations and Stoichiometries in Anion Binding

Dimers of pyrrole‐based anion‐responsive π‐electronic molecules that are linked by appropriate π‐conjugated spacers were synthesized through metal‐catalyzed coupling reactions. The dimers showed [2+1]‐, [1+1]‐, and [1+2]‐type anion binding in solution, whereas [2+2]‐ and [1+2]‐type complexes were formed in the solid state, depending on the length and electronic properties of the spacer units. Heavy Metals Make a Chain: A Catenated Bismuth Compound

Abstract Catenation is common for the light main‐group elements whereas it is rare for the heavy elements. Herein, we report the first example of a neutral molecule containing a Bi4 chain. It is prepared in a one‐step reaction between bismuth trichloride and bis(diisopropylphosphino)amine in methanol suspension. The same reaction carried out in dichloromethane gives quite different products. All products have been characterized spectroscopically and using single‐crystal X‐ray analysis.

Abstract The crossed molecular beam reactions of the methylidyne radical (CH; X2Π) with 1,3‐butadiene (CH2CHCHCH2; X1Ag) along with their (partially) deuterated counterparts were performed at collision energies of 20.8 kJ mol−1 under single collision conditions. Abstract Ligand release from IR700, a silicon phthalocyanine dye used in near‐infrared (NIR) photoimmunotherapy, initiates cancer cell death after NIR absorption, although its photochemical mechanism has remained unclear. Using a tripodal, thioether‐based ligand comprising a remote protected acetylene, we efficiently stabilize small gold nanoparticles (Ø ≈ 1.2 nm) which are isolated and purified by chromatography. This work describes the synthesis and characterization of Zn‐Al and Mg‐Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) intercalated with hexacyanoferrate. X‐ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy indicated a successful intercalation of hexacyanoferrate in the sub‐micrometer sized platelet‐like particles. The PdII‐catalyzed C‐2 acylation of pyrrole with aldehydes in the presence of TBHP as oxidant has been studied for the synthesis of di(hetero)aryl ketones. The use of 2‐pyrimidine as directing group leads to 2‐acylpyrroles in moderate to good yields, although 2,5‐diacylpyrroles are obtained as by products.
