Ultralow dielectric loss in Y‐doped SrTiO3 colossal permittivity ceramics via designing defect chemistry

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Bo Wang, Yongping Pu, Yu Shi, Xu Guo, Lei Zhang, Liangliang Chang, Jingwei Li, Run Li, Jiamin Ji, Tianchen Wei

Abstract Effects of doping of Y and sintering atmosphere on the dielectric properties of Sr1‐1.5xYxTiO3 ceramics (SYT, x = 0‐0.014) were systematically investigated. The SYT14 (x = 0.014) ceramic sintered in N2 attains a colossal permittivity (CP, Ɛr = 28 084@ 1kHz, 27 685@ 2MHz) and an ultralow dielectric loss (tanδ = 0.007@ 1kHz, 0.003@ 2MHz) at room temperature. Because of using of the A‐site deficient, there are in SYT ceramics. Through the comprehensive analysis of dielectric responses,...

Influence of ripening stage and de‐astringency treatment on the production of dehydrated persimmon snacks

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Cristina M González, Isabel Hernando, Gemma Moraga

Abstract BACKGROUND Seasonal persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.) crops have steadily increased in Spain; this has been linked to a significant increase in the postharvest production waste. Therefore, development of valorized products is of great interest. In this study, a hot air‐drying technique was used to obtain persimmon snacks. Slices from astringent and non‐astringent persimmons (submitted to de‐astringency treatment) at three different ripening stages were dried at 40 and 60 °C to reach...

Synthesis and surface properties of amphiphilic fluorine‐containing diblock copolymers

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Kirill E. Chekurov, Anna I. Barabanova, Inesa V. Blagodatskikh, Boris V. Lokshin, Mikhail S. Kondratenko, Marat O. Gallyamov, Alexander S. Peregudov, Alexei R. Khokhlov

Abstract Amphiphilic diblock copolymers (DCs) of 2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene (PFS) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) of different composition and molecular weights were prepared by two‐step reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and first used for preparation of superhydrophobic coatings for cotton/polyester fabrics. The transition from hydrophobic to superhydrophobic coatings is controlled by the ratio between poly(2,3,4,5,6‐pentafluorostyrene) (PPFS)...

Toward standardization of Raman spectroscopy: Accurate wavenumber and intensity calibration using rotational Raman spectra of H2, HD, D2, and vibration–rotation spectrum of O2

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Ankit Raj, Chihiro Kato, Henryk A. Witek, Hiro‐o Hamaguchi

Abstract Wavenumber and intensity calibration of a Raman spectrometer is performed with the use of pure rotational Raman bands (Δν = 0, ΔJ = ± 2) of H2, HD, D2, and vibration–rotation Raman bands (Δν = 1, ΔJ = ± 2) of O2 as primary standards. Wavenumber calibration is based on reference transition wavenumbers available from accurate theoretical and experimental results. Intensity calibration is based on ratios of accurate theoretical Raman intensities for transitions from common rotational...

Expression of Concern: Pari, L. and Rajarajeswari, N. (2011). Antioxidant role of coumarin on streptozotocin–nicotinamide‐induced type 2 diabetic rats. J. Biochem. Mol. Toxicol., 25: 355‐361. https://doi.org/10.1002/jbt.20395

Published: 12 August 2020

This expression of concern is for the above article, published online on May 31, 2011, in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), and has been published by agreement between the journal Editor‐in‐Chief, Dr Hari K. Bhat, and Wiley Periodicals, LLC. This expression of concern has been issued following concerns raised regarding the appearance of Figure 4A and the narrow range of standard deviations presented in Tables 1 and 2. The authors and the authors' institution failed to respond to a...

Recent trends in targeting miRNAs for cancer therapy

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Vandit Shah, Jigna Shah

Abstract Objectives MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a type of small noncoding RNA employed by the cells for gene regulation. A single miRNA, typically 22 nucleotides in length, can regulate the expression of numerous genes. Over the past decade, the study of miRNA biology in the context of cancer has led to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities. Key findings MicroRNA dysregulation is commonly associated with cancer, in part because miRNAs are actively involved in the...

Influence of electrostatic forces on the association kinetics and conformational ensemble of an intrinsically disordered protein

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Erik C. Cook, Trevor P. Creamer

Abstract Recent work has revealed that the association of a disordered region of a protein with a folded binding partner can occur as rapidly as association between two folded proteins. This is the case for the phosphatase calcineurin (CaN) and its association with its activator calmodulin. Calmodulin binds to the intrinsically disordered regulatory domain of CaN. Previous studies have shown that electrostatic steering can accelerate the binding of folded proteins with disordered ligands....

Conserved internal hydration motifs in protein kinases

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Piotr Setny

Abstract Crystal structures of diverse protein kinase catalytic subunits reveal a number of water molecules whose positions within the protein core are better preserved than amino acid types in many functionally important locations. It remains unknown whether they play any particular role, and whether their removal, disturbing local interaction patterns to no smaller degree than amino acid mutations, can affect kinase stability and function. In this study, we apply an array of computational...

RNA‐based fluorescent biosensors for live cell detection of bacterial sRNA

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Rebekah Z. Kitto, Kylee E. Christiansen, Ming C. Hammond

Abstract Bacteria contain a diverse set of RNAs to provide tight regulation of gene expression in response to environmental stimuli. Bacterial small RNAs (sRNAs) work in conjunction with protein cofactors to bind complementary mRNA sequences in the cell, leading to up‐ or downregulation of protein synthesis. In vivo imaging of sRNAs can aid in understanding their spatiotemporal dynamics in real time, which inspires new ways to manipulate these systems for a variety of applications including...

Deciphering, Designing, and Realizing Self‐Folding Biomimetic Microstructures Using a Mass‐Spring Model and Inkjet‐Printed, Self‐Folding Hydrogels

Published: 12 August 2020

Author(s): Chunxiao Cui, Jie Yin, Li‐Hsin Han

Abstract Flat, organic microstructures that can self‐fold into 3D microstructures are promising for tissue regeneration, for being capable of distributing living cells in 3D while forming highly complex, biomimetic architectures to assist cells in performing regeneration. However, the design of self‐folding microstructures is difficult due to a lack of understanding of the underlying formation mechanisms. This study helps bridge this gap by deciphering the dynamics of the self‐folding using a...
