Detection of saliva morphine using surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy combined with immunochromatographic assay

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Wei Li, Xiaozhou Li, Tianyue Yang, Xingjia Guo, Youtao Song

Abstract An immunochromatographic assay (ICA) based on surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) method was developed for the detection of morphine in this study. Indirect competitive immunoadsorption was adopted in the ICA due to the small molecular weight of morphine. Antibody modified gold nanoparticles in the ICA were labeled with Raman reporters and were used as the SERS enhancement substrate. By measuring the feature peaks of Raman reporter MBA at 1,078 cm−1, a quantitative estimation of...

Single‐step densification of nanocrystalline CeO2 by the cold sintering process

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Clive A. Randall, Scott T. Misture, Jonathan Perini, Sun Hwi Bang, Zhongming Fan, Kosuke Tsuji, Arnaud Ndayishimiye, Thomasina H. Zaengle

Abstract This study reports the successful single‐step cold sintering of nanocrystalline cerium dioxide (CeO2) at temperatures ranging from 250°C to 400°C under 500 MPa, using molten hydroxides flux solvents. CeO2 ceramics obtained were 82 to 91% of the theoretical density. Structural and microstructural investigations of the as‐cold sintered CeO2 ceramics were conducted to further understand this new approach to cold sinter ceramics. Electrical conductivity measured by two‐point AC impedance...

Three Electron Reversible Redox Reaction in Sodium Vanadium Chromium Phosphate as a High‐Energy‐Density Cathode for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): John B. Goodenough, Haibo Jin, Hongcai Gao, Xiangwen Gao, Yongjie Zhao

Abstract A sodium‐ion battery operating at room temperature is of great interest for large‐scale stationary energy storage because of its intrinsic cost advantage. However, the development of a high capacity cathode with high energy density remains a great challenge. In this work, sodium super ionic conductor‐structured Na3V2−xCrx(PO4)3 is achieved through the sol–gel method; Na3V1.5Cr0.5(PO4)3 is demonstrated to have a capacity of 150 mAh g−1 with reversible three‐electron redox reactions...

3D‐Printed Structure Boosts the Kinetics and Intrinsic Capacitance of Pseudocapacitive Graphene Aerogels

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Bin Yao, Swetha Chandrasekaran, Haozhe Zhang, Annie Ma, Junzhe Kang, Lei Zhang, Xihong Lu, Fang Qian, Cheng Zhu, Eric B. Duoss, Christopher M. Spadaccini, Marcus A. Worsley, Yat Li

Abstract The performance of pseudocapacitive electrodes at fast charging rates are typically limited by the slow kinetics of Faradaic reactions and sluggish ion diffusion in the bulk structure. This is particularly problematic for thick electrodes and electrodes highly loaded with active materials. Here, a surface‐functionalized 3D‐printed graphene aerogel (SF‐3D GA) is presented that achieves not only a benchmark areal capacitance of 2195 mF cm−2 at a high current density of 100 mA cm−2 but...

Nitrene Transfer Reactions for Asymmetric C–H Amination: Recent Development

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Hiroki Hayashi, Tatsuya Uchida

C–H bonds are ubiquitous and abundant in organic molecules. If C–H bonds could be directly converted to desired functional groups in a chemo‐, site‐, and stereoselective manner, C–H functionalization would be a strong and useful tool for organic synthesis. Recent developments in catalytic and enzymatic chemistry have achieved highly sustainable and selective nitrene C–H insertion. Initially, C–H amination was inspired by model studies on enzymatic oxidation and used iminoiodinanes, nitrogen...

Three Step Synthesis of Fully and Differently Arylated Pyridines

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Mao Arita, Soichi Yokoyama, Haruyasu Asahara, Nagatoshi Nishiwaki

Condensation of β‐(2‐pyridyl)enamine and α,β‐unsaturated ketone in the presence of FeCl3 under air afforded highly substituted pyridines. In this transformation, FeCl3 acted as not only an acid catalyst but also an oxidant for the intermediate dihydropyridine. The substituents could be easily modified by altering the substrates to obtain tri‐ and tetraarylpyridines including bipyridines and terpyridine. Synthesis of differently substituted pentaarylpyridines was consequently achieved via only...

Hydration‐Effect‐Promoting Ni–Fe Oxyhydroxide Catalysts for Neutral Water Oxidation

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Ning Wang, Zhen Cao, Xueli Zheng, Bo Zhang, Sergey M. Kozlov, Peining Chen, Chengqin Zou, Xiangbin Kong, Yunzhou Wen, Min Liu, Yansong Zhou, Cao Thang Dinh, Lirong Zheng, Huisheng Peng, Ying Zhao, Luigi Cavallo, Xiaodan Zhang, Edward H. Sargent

Abstract Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts that function efficiently in pH‐neutral electrolyte are of interest for biohybrid fuel and chemical production. The low concentration of reactant in neutral electrolyte mandates that OER catalysts provide both the water adsorption and dissociation steps. Here it is shown, using density functional theory simulations, that the addition of hydrated metal cations into a Ni–Fe framework contributes water adsorption functionality proximate to the...

Solid versus Liquid—A Bottom‐Up Calculation Model to Analyze the Manufacturing Cost of Future High‐Energy Batteries

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Gunther Reinhart, Anna Julia Imbsweiler, Heiko Knörzer, Joscha Schnell

All‐solid‐state batteries (ASSB) are promising candidates for future energy storage. However, only a little is known about the manufacturing costs for industrial production. Herein, a detailed bottom‐up calculation is performed to estimate the required investment and to facilitate comparison with conventional lithium‐ion batteries (LIB). Results indicate that sulfide‐based ASSBs can indeed be competitive if the material compatibility issues can be solved and production is successfully scaled....

Nanofibers reinforced silica aerogel composites having flexibility and ultra‐low thermal conductivity

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Rubing Zhang, Zhimin An, Yue Zhao, Liang Zhang, Peng Zhou

Abstract For the sake of enhancing the performance of flexible silica aerogel in practical applications, flexible SiO2/SnO2 nanofibers (SSNF) reinforced flexible silica aerogel composites (abbreviated as SiO2‐SSNF) were successfully prepared. Firstly, the SiO2/SnO2 nanofibers with fine diameter (~320 nm) and excellent flexibility were prepared by electrospinning technology. Then the aerogel composites were synthesized by adding the flexible SSNF to the silica solution and through the sol‐gel...

Crystal structure, phonon modes, and bond characteristics of AgPb2B2V3O12 (B = Mg, Zn) microwave ceramics

Published: 17 January 2020

Author(s): Rakhi Madhuri, Subodh Ganesanpotti

Abstract AgPb2B2V3O12 (B = Mg, Zn) ceramics with low sintering temperature were synthesized via the conventional solid‐state reaction route. Rietveld refinements of the X‐ray diffraction patterns confirm cubic symmetry with space group . The number of observed vibrational modes and those predicted by group theoretical calculations also confirm the space group. At the optimum sintering temperature of 750°C/4 hours, AgPb2Mg2V3O12 has a relative permittivity of 23.3 ± 0.2, unloaded quality factor...
