Effect of Anti‐Encrustation Additives on Zirconium Molybdate Hydrate

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Masayuki Takeuchi, Yasunori Miyazaki, Izumi Hirasawa, Risako Abe

Abstract Anti‐encrustation additives were mainly investigated in nitric acid solution with zirconium (Zr), molybdenum (Mo), and tellurium (Te) to prevent the encrustation of zirconium molybdate hydrate (ZMH). The ZMH generated by reaction crystallization of Mo and Zr as main fission products has a high adhesion property in spent nuclear fuel reprocessing. In addition, it is reported that Te, which is also one of the fission products, precipitates together with ZMH. Encrustation of precipitates...

In Silico Prediction of Metabolic Epoxidation for Drug‐like Molecules via Machine Learning Methods

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Jiajing Hu, Yingchun Cai, Weihua Li, Guixia Liu, Yun Tang

Abstract Epoxidation is one of the reactions in drug metabolism. Since epoxide metabolites would bind with proteins or DNA covalently, drugs should avoid epoxidation metabolism in the body. Due to the instability of epoxide, it is difficult to determine epoxidation experimentally. In silico models based on big data and machine learning methods are hence valuable approaches to predict whether a compound would undergo epoxidation. In this study, we collected 884 epoxidation data manually from...

Nano ZrO2 reinforced cellulose incorporated polyethylmethacrylate/polyvinyl alcohol composite films as semiconducting packaging materials

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Kalyani Prusty, Sarat K. Swain

Abstract A simple in situ polymerization process is used to synthesize nanocomposite films with incorporation of cellulose and nano ZrO2 (PEMA/PVA‐C@ZrO2). The change in structural, morphological, and functional properties are noticed due to combine effect of cellulose and zirconia which is studied by FTIR, XRD, XPS, FESEM, HRTEM, DLS, and AFM. The distribution of particle in the film is determined from dynamic light scattering (DLS). It is found that, dielectric permittivity is increased with...

Prescription patterns of first‐ and second‐generation antipsychotic drugs in the French population

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Lucie‐Marie Scailteux, Mathilde Husky, Emmanuelle Leray, Frédéric Balusson, Viviane Kovess‐Masfety

Abstract This study assessed in depth the use of first‐ and second‐generation antipsychotic (FGAP/SGAP) drugs in France. A 1/97th random sample of beneficiaries affiliated to the French Health Insurance system—Echantillon Généraliste des Bénéficiaires (EGB)—was used: (i) 621 662 persons in 2015 among which 11 319 had an antipsychotic (AP) prescription; (ii) a sample of first AP prescriptions concerning 5 935 patients in 2013 and 2014 (no AP in the last 6 months of 2012) for whom diagnosis was...

Submicron laser‐textured vents for self‐cleaning injection molds

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Marco Sorgato, Filippo Zanini, Davide Masato, Giovanni Lucchetta

Abstract Clogging of venting slots in injection molds is a common maintenance problem caused by the degradation and the accumulation of gaseous and volatiles by‐products of polymer melting. In this work, the effect of laser‐induced periodic surface structures on the self‐cleaning properties of venting slots is investigated. The degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) over different surfaces is characterized by reproducing the mechanisms that occurs in mold cavities when the air is...

Electrochemically Driven Formation of Sponge‐Like Porous Silver Nanocubes Toward Efficient CO2 Electroreduction to CO

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Tingting Fan, Qiuling Wu, Zhou Yang, Yipeng Song, Jiguang Zhang, Pingping Huang, Zhou Chen, Yunyun Dong, Weiping Fang, Xiaodong Yi

Abstract Electrochemical conversion of CO2 into valuable products by utilizing renewable electricity is a thriving research field. For electrochemical reduction of CO2 to CO, uniform sponge‐like porous Ag nanocubes (SPC‐Ag) integrated on carbon paper are prepared by using an electrochemically driven method. The SPC‐Ag has a 3 D porous structure and a large specific surface area, which affords abundant active sites for the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), as well as reducing impedance to...

Contact Behavior of Microcrystalline Cellulose Pellets Depending on their Water Content

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Philipp Grohn, Dominik Weis, Markus Thommes, Stefan Heinrich, Sergiy Antonyuk

Abstract Microcrystalline cellulose pellets for oral drug delivery are often produced by a combined wet extrusion‐spheronization process. During the entire process, the cylindrical as well as the spherical pellets are exposed to various stresses resulting in a change of their shape and size due to plastic deformation and breakage. In this work, the effect of moisture content of pellets on their mechanical behavior is studied. In static compression tests, the strong influence of water content...

Self‐Assembling Proteins for Design of Anticancer Nanodrugs

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Qianli Zou, Rui Chang, Xuehai Yan

Abstract Inspired by the diverse protein‐based structures and materials in organisms, proteins have been expected as promising biological components for constructing nanomaterials toward various applications. In numerous studies protein‐based nanomaterials have been constructed with the merits of abundant bioactivity and good biocompatibility. However, self‐assembly of proteins as a dominant approach in constructing anticancer nanodrugs has not been reviewed. Here, we provide a comprehensive...

Circular Nucleic Acids: Discovery, Functions and Applications

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Jiuxing Li, Mostafa Mohammed‐Elsabagh, Freeman Paczkowski, Yingfu Li

Abstract Circular nucleic acids (CNAs) are nucleic acid molecules with a closed‐loop structure. This feature comes with a number of advantages including complete resistance to exonuclease degradation, much better thermodynamic stability, and the capability of being replicated by a DNA polymerase in a rolling circle manner. Circular functional nucleic acids, CNAs containing at least a ribozyme/DNAzyme or a DNA/RNA aptamer, not only inherit the advantages of CNAs but also offer some unique...

DPP‐4 Cleaves α/β‐Peptide Bonds: Substrate Specificity and Half‐Lives

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Amila Turalić, Jasmina Đeđibegović, Zsófia Hegedüs, Tamás A. Martinek

Abstract The incorporation of β‐amino acids into a peptide sequence has gained particular attention as β‐ and α/β‐peptides have shown remarkable proteolytic stability, even after a single homologation at the scissile bond. Several peptidases have been shown to cleave such bonds with high specificity but at a much slower rate compared to α‐peptide bonds. In this study, a series of analogs of dipeptidyl peptidase‐4 (DPP‐4) substrate inhibitors were synthesized in order to investigate whether...
