Highly Efficient and Color‐Stable Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence White Light‐Emitting Diodes Featured with Single‐Doped Single Emissive Layers

Published: 28 January 2020

Author(s): Dongxue Ding, Zicheng Wang, Chenyu Li, Jing Zhang, Chunbo Duan, Ying Wei, Hui Xu

Abstract Despite their merits of environmental friendliness, low cost, and large‐scale production, thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) based white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs) for daily lighting applications still face the formidable challenges of structural simplification and controllable exciton allocation. Here, the state‐of‐the‐art full‐TADF WOLEDs with features of the single‐doped single emissive layers (EMLs) and ultrasimple trilayer structure are demonstrated. The...

Solvent‐Free Plasticity and Programmable Mechanical Behaviors of Engineered Proteins

Published: 28 January 2020

Author(s): Chao Ma, Juanjuan Su, Bo Li, Andreas Herrmann, Hongjie Zhang, Kai Liu

Abstract Biopolymeric networks with plasticity show great competences in diverse fields owing to the combined biocompatible and mechanical characteristics. However, to realize such plasticity external complicated treatments, e.g., UV or organic solvent have to be applied, which in turn impair the biological nature and even mechanical properties of those systems. To address this challenge, one new type of anhydrous protein liquid crystalline (LC) gels, which exhibit flexible morphological...

The Effect of Oligo(Ethylene Oxide) Side Chains: A Strategy to Improve Contrast and Switching Speed in Electrochromic Polymers

Published: 28 January 2020

Author(s): Youquan Chen, Yuyang Yin, Xing Xing, Daqi Fang, Yang Zhao, Yanan Zhu, Muhammad Umair Ali, Yuhao Shi, Junwu Bai, Peiheng Wu, Clifton Kwang‐Fu Shen, Hong Meng

Abstract Solution‐processable electrochromic polymers (ECPs) with high performance are urgently needed for extensive applications. Nevertheless, they suffer from slow switching speed because of low ionic conductivities. Herein, we present an effective strategy to improve the contrast and switching speed in ECPs via facile side‐chain engineering. A novel electrochromic thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene‐based polymer (PmOTTBTD) is designed and successfully synthesized by introducing oligo(ethylene oxide)...

Exsolution of Nickel Nanoparticles from Mixed‐Valence Metal Oxides: A Quantitative Evaluation by Magnetic Measurements

Published: 28 January 2020

Author(s): Victor B. Tinti, Debora Marani, Andre S. Ferlauto, Fabio C. Fonseca, Vincenzo Esposito, Daniel Z. Florio

Abstract A fast and accurate experimental method is demonstrated to assess the fraction of exsolved metallic nanoparticles using magnetic measurements. As a benchmark, nanometric metallic nickel exsolved from (La1−xSrx)(Cr1−yNiy)O3−δ is used for its high relevance as a solid oxide fuel cell component. The method is based on the difference in the magnetic response of the exsolved metallic nickel (ferromagnetic) and Sr‐doped lanthanum chromite ceramic matrix (paramagnetic). The exsolved nickel...

Copper Bis(oxazoline)‐Catalyzed Enantioselective Alkynylation of Benzopyrylium Ions

Published: 28 January 2020

Author(s): Yong Guan, Jonathan W. Attard, Anita E. Mattson

Abstract The stereocontrolled construction of biologically relevant chromanones and tetrahydroxanthones has been achieved through the addition of alkynes to benzopyrylium trilfates under the influence of copper bis(oxazoline) catalysis. Excellent levels of enantiocontrol (63–98 % ee) are achieved in the addition of a variety of alkynes to an array of chromenones with a hydrogen in the 2‐position. Promising levels of enantiocontrol (54–67 % ee) are achieved in the alkynylation of chromenones...

A 116‐Nuclear Metallosupramolecular Cage‐of‐Cage Showing Multistep Single‐Crystal‐to‐Single‐Crystal Transformation

Published: 28 January 2020

Author(s): Kento Imanishi, Benny Wahyudianto, Tatsuhiro Kojima, Nobuto Yoshinari, Takumi Konno

Abstract Here a unique single‐crystal‐to‐single‐crystal (SCSC) transformation of a 116‐nuclear AuI72CdII40NaI4 cage‐of‐cage (2CdNa) is reported, which was created from a trigold(I) metalloligand with d‐penicillamine by way of a 9‐nuclear AuI6CdII3 cage (1). Cage‐of‐cage 2CdNa is composed of 12 cages of 1 that are linked by 4 Cd2+ and 4 Na+ ions, with its surface being covered by 12 NO3− ions to form a discrete, spherical molecule with a diameter ca. 4.7 nm. In crystal 2CdNa, the cage‐of‐cage...

Cycloaddition of Dialkylalumanyl Anion toward Unsaturated Hydrocarbons in (1+2) and (1+4) Modes

Published: 28 January 2020

Author(s): Kengo Sugita, Ryo Nakano, Makoto Yamashita

Abstract The reactivity of dialkylalumanyl anion (1) towards naphthalene, anthracene, diphenylacetylene, and (E)/(Z)‐stilbenes was investigated. The compound 1 reacts with naphthalene and anthracene through (1+4) cyclization, giving Al‐containing norbornadiene derivatives. In the reaction of 1 with diphenylacetylene and (E)/(Z)‐stilbenes, (1+2) cyclization proceeded to form Al‐C‐C three‐membered rings. Cyclization toward (E)‐ or (Z)‐stilbenes solely gave a trans‐cycloadduct. DFT calculations...
