Oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane over mixed metal oxide catalysts: Autothermal or cooled tubular reactor design?

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Jiakang Chen, Praveen Bollini, Vemuri Balakotaiah

Abstract A kinetic model consistent with experimentally measured reaction orders for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODHE) over a MoVTeNbO catalyst is developed and applied to compare autothermal and multi‐tubular reactor designs for the same. The results suggest that autothermal reactor configurations are more favorable compared to multi‐tubular ones for this highly exothermic reaction, and become even more so with increasing active site density. A bifurcation analysis based on...

Synthesis of Quinoline‐4‐carboxamides and Quinoline‐4‐carboxylates via a Modified Pfitzinger Reaction of N‐Vinylisatins

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Marco V. Mijangos, Yoarhy A. Amador‐Sánchez, Luis D. Miranda

Abstract A synthetic approach for the accelerated assembly of quinoline‐4‐carboxamide and quinoline‐4‐carboxylate nuclei is presented. The methodology is based on the rearrangement of N‐vinylisatins promoted by different types of amines (or ethanol) in a Pfitzinger‐type mechanism that, in turn, builds the quinoline ring system. The reaction took place only by heating the starting materials in ethanol, without any additive.

Recent Developments in Deaminative Functionalization of Alkyl Amines

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Yao‐Fu Zeng, Yu Guo, Fang Xiao, Yi‐Na Li

Abstract The amino group is one of the most prevalent functional groups present in a wide range of organic molecules, which has been widely applied in various organic synthesis and pharmaceuticals. Alkyl amines could be converted in a single step into Katritzky salts which could serve as alkyl radical precursors to construct C−C bonds and C−X bonds via C(sp3)−N cleavage. This deaminative functionalization could be carried out under transition‐metal catalysis, photocatalysis, carbene catalysis...

Comparison of carcass characteristics and meat quality between Simmental crossbred cattle, cattle‐yaks and Xuanhan yellow cattle

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Yongjie Wang, Zhisheng Wang, Rui Hu, Quanhui Peng, Bai Xue, Lizhi Wang

Abstract BACKGROUND The study compared the growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality of steers of Xuanhan yellow cattle, Simmental crossbreed cattle (Simmental × Xuanhan yellow cattle) and cattle‐yak (Jersey × yak). All steers were feed with the same diet from 6 months until slaughter at 30 months. The longissimus dorsi muscle was used to compare the meat quality traits. RESULTS By comparison, Simmental crossbreed cattle had higher growth performance (P

Characterizing and predicting sublethal shifts in mobility by multiple stored product insects over time to an old and novel contact insecticide in three key stored commodities

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Alexander Bruce, Frank H Arthur, William R Morrison

Abstract BACKGROUND There has been a push to diversify integrated pest management (IPM) programs away from exclusive fumigant use in food facilities. Residual insecticides increasingly have been included among plans. In stored products, sublethal toxicity has been neglected in favor of evaluating direct mortality. Here, we evaluated the movement of Tribolium castaneum, Rhyzopertha dominica, Sitophilus oryzae and Sitophilus zeamais in response to aged residues of an existing (Diacon IGR+® with...

Effect of alcoholic and acetous fermentations on the phenolic acids of Kei‐apple (Dovyalis caffra L.) fruit

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Phillip Minnaar, Neil Jolly, Louisa Beukes, Santiago Benito‐Sáez

Abstract BACKGROUND The Kei apple is a tree found on the African continent. Limited information exists on the effect of alcoholic and acetous fermentation on the phytochemicals of Kei apple. The fruit has increased concentrations of l‐malic, ascorbic, and phenolic acids among other compounds. Juice was co‐inoculated with Schizosaccharomyces pombe (Sp) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Sc) to induce alcoholic fermentation (AF). Acetous fermentation followed AF, using an acetic acid bacteria (AAB)...

Covalent Functionalization of Graphene for the Enhancement of Thermophysical Properties in Nanofluids

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Vishnuprasad Selvaraj, Karthick Senthilkumar, Haribabu Krishnan

Abstract Covalent functionalization of graphene nanoparticles by autoclave, reflux‐condensation, and microwave‐assisted methods was performed. Nanofluids prepared by acidic functionalized graphene exhibit a higher dispersion stability than raw graphene. The thermal conductivity of nanofluids obtained by the microwave‐assisted method was higher than with other functionalization methods, and a signifcant maximum thermal conductivity enhancement compared to deionized water was achieved....

Exploiting Deprotonative Co‐complexation to Access Potassium Metal(ates) Supported by a Bulky Silyl(bis)amide Ligand

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Pasquale Mastropierro, Alan R. Kennedy, Eva Hevia

Abstract Bimetallic complexes combining an alkali‐metal with a lower electropositive metal have demonstrated unique chemical profiles which can be rationalised in terms of chemical cooperativity. Advancing the rational design of these types of complexes, a adaptable method is described to prepare a new family of potassium metal(ates) containing the highly sterically demanding silyl(bis)amide {Ph2Si(NAr*)2}2− (Ar*=2,6‐diisopropylphenyl). Using a sequential deprotonative co‐complexation...

Heterobimetallic Carbene Complexes Bearing Cyclometalated IrIII/RhIII and Mixed NHC Py/PPh3 Coordinated PdII Centers: Structures and Tandem Catalysis

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Adhir Majumder, Tarak Nath Saha, Niladri Majumder, Rajat Naskar, Kuntal Pal, Ramananda Maity

Abstract Heterobimetallic complexes bearing NHC donor ligands are gaining immense popularity in organometallic chemistry and tandem catalysis. It is known that the NHC reacts with PdII in the presence of pyridine to yield PEPPSI type complexes and the NHC ligands having ortho‐C−H proton easily orthometalate to IrIII or RhIII centers. Combining these two methodologies in a stepwise fashion, we present here a series of heterobimetallic IrIII−PdII and RhIII−PdII complexes from a dicarbene donor...

An Experimental and Theoretical Investigation on the Oxidation of CO over Pd/C Derived from the Spent Pd Catalyst

Published: 20 January 2021

Author(s): Ansari Palliyarayil, Premkumar Selvarajan, Pavan Seethur Prakash, C. I. Sathish, Venkata. D. B. C. Dasireddy, Ajayan Vinu, Nallaperumal Shunmuga Kumar, Sanchita Sil

Abstract Development of novel materials and methodologies for removal of toxic and poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas is important to solve serious health and environmental related problems. Existing materials used for the removal of CO gas are quite expensive and therefore, the synthesis of low‐cost and earth‐abundant catalyst for CO oxidation is urgently needed. In the present work, we report the preparation of Pd nanoparticles loaded on porous carbon supports from the spent Pd/C and the...
