Preparation of high‐performance epoxy‐containing silicone rubber via hydrosilylation reaction

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Yuan Wang, Bin Zhang, Shengtai Zhou, Yang Chen, Mei Liang, Huawei Zou

ABSTRACT A novel epoxy‐containing silicone rubber network was constructed by hydrosilylation reaction among the synthesized vinyl‐containing epoxy resin prepolymers, vinyl terminated silicone oil and hydrogen‐containing silicone oil. The structure of the vinyl‐containing epoxy resin prepolymers was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Morphology observations revealed that uniform “sea‐island” phase separation structure was...

Cellulosic nonwovens produced via efficient solution blowing technique

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Kerstin Jedvert, Alexander Idström, Tobias Köhnke, Mårten Alkhagen

ABSTRACT The demand for nonwoven materials has increased during the last few years and is expected to increase further due to its use in a broad range of new application areas. Today, the majority of nonwovens are from petroleum‐based resources but there is a desideratum to develop sustainable and competitive materials from renewable feedstock. In this work, renewable nonwovens are produced by solution blowing of dissolved cellulose using 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium acetate (EMIMAc) as...

Influence of amine‐terminated additives on thermal and mechanical properties of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) cured epoxy

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Zahra Baig, Nadia Akram, Khalid Mahmood Zia, Muhammad Saeed, Muhammad Kaleem Khosa, Liaquat Ali, Sundas Saleem

ABSTRACT The present work accounts for the influence of aromatic amide oligomers on the inherent brittleness of cured epoxy. Aromatic and aliphatic amine‐terminated amide oligomers have been prepared by condensation polymerization using isophthaloyl dichloride and two different amines. The oligomers have been characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and wide angle X‐ray diffraction analysis. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) is cured with a diamine (4,4′‐oxydianiline)...

Confinement of hydrogen atom with Dirac equation

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Daniel Baye

Abstract The problem of a particle confined in a spherical cavity is studied with the Dirac equation. A hard confinement is obtained by forcing the large component to vanish at the cavity radius. It is shown that the small component cannot vanish simultaneously at this radius. In the case of a confined hydrogen atom, the energies are given by an implicit equation. For some values of the radius, explicit analytical expressions of the energy exist like in the nonrelativistic case. Very accurate...

Optimal heating profiles in tubular reactors with solid‐phase axial wall conduction for isothermal operation

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Costas Kravaris, Benjamin Wilhite, Sunjeev Venkateswaran

Abstract Optimal heat input profiles to maintain near isothermal operation in endothermic tubular reactors with axial solid‐phase conduction were derived using a one‐dimensional steady state plug flow model capturing the main transport phenomena in flow reactors. A cost criterion to minimize the deviation from isothermality was defined and optimal control theory is applied to calculate the optimal heating profiles as a function of position. It is shown the perfect isothermality is...

Testing Application of Geographical Information Systems, Forensic Geomorphology and Electrical Resistivity Tomography to Investigate Clandestine Grave Sites in Colombia, South America

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Carlos Martin Molina, Kristopher D. Wisniewski, Jonathan Drake, Alejandra Baena, Ana Guatame, Jamie K. Pringle

Abstract Colombian forensic investigators required assistance locating clandestine burials of missing persons related to human right atrocities from 14 years ago. Geoscientific search methods were trialled, including a predictive spatial statistical model, using various input and database information, to select the most likely grave locations in difficult mountainous terrain. Groundwork using forensic geomorphology, near‐surface geophysics (ERT) and subsequent probing identified suspect burial...

Towards laser spectroscopy of 24Mg+ ions at CRYRING@ESR

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Konstantin Mohr, Zoran Andelkovic, Aineah Wekesa Barasa, Axel Buß, Volker Hannen, Wilfried Nörtershäuser, Tim Ratajczyk, Rodolfo Sánchez

CRYRING@ESR is a newly installed low energy ring integrated in the GSI accelerator facility. In this paper we describe developments of the laser spectroscopy experiment at CRYRING@ESR. In the past commissioning beam time in November, the recently installed data acquisition system was tested. Light emitted by excited residual gas atoms was detected by a single‐photon tagging technique. The time dependence of the ion beam intensity was investigated with this tool.

SimpleDSFviewer: A tool to analyze and view differential scanning fluorimetry data for characterizing protein thermal stability and interactions

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Changye Sun, Yong Li, Edwin A. Yates, David G. Fernig

Abstract Differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF) is a widely used thermal shift assay for measuring protein stability and protein–ligand interactions that are simple, cheap, and amenable to high throughput. However, data analysis remains a challenge, requiring improved methods. Here, the program SimpleDSFviewer, a user‐friendly interface, is described to help the researchers who apply DSF technique in their studies. SimpleDSFviewer integrates melting curve (MC) normalization, smoothing, and...

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic performance of palladium supported on pyridine‐based covalent organic polymer for Suzuki‐Miyaura reaction

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): Yi Han, Jia‐Qi Di, Ai‐Dong Zhao, Zhan‐Hui Zhang

A bipyridine‐based covalent organic polymer (COP) was successfully synthesized by condensation of trimesoyl chloride (TMC) and 2,2′‐bipyridine‐5,5′‐diamine (Bpy) under ambient conditions. This material was modified by coordination of PdCl2 to COP framework, affording a hybrid material, Pd@TMC‐Bpy COP, which was applied as a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for Suzuki‐Miyaura reaction under ligand‐free conditions in ethyl lactate. The catalyst could be reused for five times without...

A Predictive Mathematical Model of Cell Cycle, Metabolism, and Apoptosis of Monoclonal Antibody‐Producing GS–NS0 Cells

Published: 19 August 2019

Author(s): António L. Grilo, Athanasios Mantalaris

The monoclonal antibody (mAb) industry is witnessing unprecedented growth, with an increasing range of new molecules and biosimilars as well as disease targets approved than ever before. Competition necessitates pharmaceutical companies to reduce development/production costs and time‐to‐market. To this aim, mathematical modeling can aid traditional experiment‐only‐based process development by reducing the design space, integrating scales, and assisting in identifying optimal operating...
