f‐Element Half‐Sandwich Complexes: A Tetrasilylcyclobutadienyl–Uranium(IV)–Tris(tetrahydroborate) Anion Pianostool Complex

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Josef T. Boronski, Laurence R. Doyle, John A. Seed, Ashley J. Wooles, Stephen T. Liddle

Abstract Despite there being numerous examples of f‐element compounds supported by cyclopentadienyl, arene, cycloheptatrienyl, and cyclooctatetraenyl ligands (C5–8), cyclobutadienyl (C4) complexes remain exceedingly rare. Here, we report that reaction of [Li2{C4(SiMe3)4}(THF)2] (1) with [U(BH4)3(THF)2] (2) gives the pianostool complex [U{C4(SiMe3)4}(BH4)3][Li(THF)4] (3), where use of a borohydride and preformed C4‐unit circumvents difficulties in product isolation and closing a C4‐ring at...

Structure and Properties of Violet Phosphorus and Its Phosphorene Exfoliation

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Lihui Zhang, Hongyang Huang, Bo Zhang, Mengyue Gu, Dan Zhao, Xuewen Zhao, Longren Li, Jun Zhou, Kai Wu, Yonghong Cheng, Jinying Zhang

Abstract Black phosphorene has attracted much attention as a semiconducting two‐dimensional material. Violet phosphorus is another layered semiconducting phosphorus allotrope with unique electronic and optoelectronic properties. However, no confirmed violet crystals or reliable lattice structure of violet phosphorus had been obtained. Now, violet phosphorus single crystals were produced and the lattice structure has been obtained by single‐crystal x‐ray diffraction to be monoclinic with space...

Green Metal‐Free Photochemical Hydroacylation of Unactivated Olefins

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Errika Voutyritsa, Christoforos G. Kokotos

Abstract Direct alkylation of C(sp2)−H bonds to convert an aldehyde into a ketone is a notorious transformation, due to the laborious challenge of the formation of ketyl or acyl radicals. Herein, we report a green, cheap, metal‐free and efficient method for the hydroacylation of olefins in water. This photochemical protocol utilizes phenylglyoxylic acid, a commercially available small organic molecule, as the photoinitiator, water as the solvent and household fluorescent lamps as the...

Facile Generation of Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence and Fabrication of Highly Efficient Non‐Doped OLEDs Based on Triazine Derivatives

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Chih‐Hao Chang, Chin‐Wei Lu, Wei‐Wen Tsai, Ting‐Ya Chiu, Chun‐Han Lin, Chia‐Wei Liao, Wei‐Cheng Li, Yi‐Chun Hsieh, Ying‐Wei Chen, Hsin‐Yun Chih

Abstract A series of donor–acceptor–donor triazine‐based molecules with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) properties were synthesized to obtain highly efficient blue‐emitting OLEDs with non‐doped emitting layers (EMLs). The targeted molecules use a triazine core as the electron acceptor, and a benzene ring as the conjugated linker with different electron donors to alternate the energy level of the HOMO to further tune the emission color. The introduction of long alkyl chains on...

Photoactivated Fluorescence Enhancement in F,N‐Doped Carbon Dots with Piezochromic Behavior

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Hong Bi, Bo Zou, Guanjun Xiao, Ting Geng, Siyu Lu, Haizhen Ding, Lei Jiang

Abstract Photoactivation in CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) on UV/Vis light exposure improves photoluminescence (PL) and photostability. However, it was not observed in fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CDs). Now, photoactivated fluorescence enhancement in fluorine and nitrogen co‐doped carbon dots (F,N‐doped CDs) is presented. At 1.0 atm, the fluorescence intensity of F,N‐doped CDs increases with UV light irradiation (5 s–30 min), accompanied with a blue‐shift of the fluorescence emission from...

An Ultrasound Activated Vesicle of Janus Au‐MnO Nanoparticles for Promoted Tumor Penetration and Sono‐Chemodynamic Therapy of Orthotopic Liver Cancer

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Xiahui Lin, Shuya Liu, Xuan Zhang, Rong Zhu, Shan Chen, Xiaoyuan Chen, Jibin Song, Huanghao Yang

Abstract Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has the advantages of high penetration, non‐invasiveness, and controllability, and it is suitable for deep‐seated tumors. However, there is still a lack of effective sonosensitizers with high sensitivity, safety, and penetration. Now, ultrasound (US) and glutathione (GSH) dual responsive vesicles of Janus Au‐MnO nanoparticles (JNPs) were coated with PEG and a ROS‐sensitive polymer. Upon US irradiation, the vesicles were disassembled into small Janus Au‐MnO...

Recent advances in computational 31P NMR: Part 2. Spin–spin coupling constants

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Leonid B. Krivdin

Abstract This is the second part of two closely related reviews dealing with the computation of 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) parameters in a wide range of phosphorous containing compounds. The first part of this review concentrated primarily on the computation of 31P NMR chemical shifts, whereas the second part concerns the calculation of spin–spin coupling constants involving phosphorus nucleus, focusing primarily on their stereochemical dependencies and stereodynamic behavior in...

Phycocyanobilin reduces brain injury after endothelin‐1‐ induced focal cerebral ischaemia

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Nancy Pavón‐Fuentes, Javier Marín‐Prida, Alexey Llópiz‐Arzuaga, Viviana Falcón‐Cama, Rosario Campos‐Mojena, Majel Cervantes‐Llanos, Beatriz Piniella‐Matamoros, Eduardo Pentón‐Arias, Giselle Pentón‐Rol

Abstract Pharmacological therapies for interrupting biochemical events of the ischaemic cascade and protecting against stroke in humans are as yet unavailable. Up to now, the neuroprotective activity in cerebral ischaemia of phycocyanobilin (PCB), a tetrapyrrolic natural antioxidant, has not been fully examined. Here, we evaluated if PCB protects PC12 neuronal cells against oxygen and glucose deprivation plus reperfusion, and its protective effects in a rat model of endothelin‐1‐induced focal...

Comparative effectiveness of different antiplatelet agents at reducing TNF‐driven inflammatory responses in a mouse model

Published: 06 December 2019

Author(s): Hae‐Ri Lee, Kyung‐Yeon Park, Young‐Jin Jeong, Tae‐Hwe Heo

Abstract Antiplatelet drugs are conventionally used as treatments because of their anti‐coagulation functions. However, their pleiotropic effects are of great significance to the treatment of ischaemic cardiovascular diseases. Many studies have reported that an excessive amount of inflammation driven by tumour necrosis factor (TNF) is closely related to the prevalence of atherosclerosis. As the drug selection criteria and evaluation methods related to the anti‐TNF activity of antiplatelet...
