Engineering d‐Lactate Dehydrogenase to Favor an Non‐natural Cofactor Nicotinamide Cytosine Dinucleotide

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Yuxue Liu, Qing Li, Lei Wang, Xiaojia Guo, Junting Wang, Qian Wang, Zongbao K. Zhao

Abstract Synthetic nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) analogues are of great scientific and biotechnological interest. One such analogue, nicotinamide cytosine dinucleotide (NCD), has been successfully applied to creating bioorthogonal redox systems. Yet, only a few redox enzymes have been devised to favor NCD. We have engineered Lactobacillus helveticus‐derived NAD‐dependent d‐lactate dehydrogenase (LhDLDH) to favor NCD by semirational design. Sequence alignment and structural analysis...

Confinement of Intermediates in Blue TiO2 Nanotube Arrays Boosts Reaction Rate of Nitrogen Electrocatalysis

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Jianfang Zhang, Yujing Tian, Tianyu Zhang, Zhengyuan Li, Xiaojie She, Yucheng Wu, Yan Wang, Jingjie Wu

Abstract Electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) is a complementary route to the traditional Haber‐Bosch process. Boosting the reaction kinetics of electrocatalytic NRR is key to promote the NH3 yield. Herein, we demonstrate that the confinement of reactive intermediates (e. g., *N2) in highly ordered blue TiO2 nanotubes (b‐TiO2) can significantly enhance the surface reaction rate of electrocatalytic NRR on the encapsulated metal oxide catalysts. The enhancement of the reaction rate...

Activation of C−H Bond of Propane by Strong Basic Sites Generated by Bulk Proton Conduction on V‐Modified Hydroxyapatites for the Formation of Propene.

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Sarah Petit, Cyril Thomas, Yannick Millot, Jean‐Marc Krafft, Christel Laberty‐Robert, Guylène Costentin

Abstract Insights into the catalytic transformation of propane to propene on V‐apatite catalysts are provided based on structure‐reactivity relationships. Substitution of phosphates by vanadates in the hydroxyapatite structure leads to the formation of Ca10(PO4)6‐x(VO4)x(OH)2‐yOy V‐oxy‐hydroxy‐apatite solid solutions (x=0→6). Bulk vanadium incorporation promotes (i) calcium rich terminations (XPS, CO adsorption), (ii) proton deficiency inside the OH− channels (1H NMR) giving rise to O2− native...

Self‐assembly Mesoporous FeP Film with High Porosity for Efficient Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Cong Zhang, Maosheng S. Xia, Zhipeng P. Liu, Guoqing Q. Huang, Shisheng S. Yuan, Jing Ai, Nan Li, Xiaotian T. Li

Abstract Exploring efficient noble metal‐free electrocatalysts is of significance for water electrolysis. In this work, we fabricated a high‐efficiency self‐supporting electrode with mesoporous FeP film coated on carbon cloth (meso‐FeP film/CC) for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Compared with nanoparticle‐stacked disordered porous structure, the ordered mesoporous iron phosphide film exhibits high porosity as high as 2.3×1017 site per mg, as well as small pore size and uniform pore...

Transition Metal‐free C−H Sulfonylation and Pyrazole Annulation Cascade for the Synthesis of 4‐Sulfonyl Pyrazoles

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Lihong Tian, Jie‐Ping Wan, Shouri Sheng

Abstract A practical protocol for the synthesis of 4‐sulfonyl pyrazoles via the reactions of readily available N,N‐dimethyl enaminones and sulfonyl hydrazines has been developed via the catalysis of molecular iodine in the presence of TBHP and NaHCO3 at room temperature. The pyrazole products have been constructed via the tandem C(sp2)−H sulfonylation and a pyrazole annulation without employing any transition metal catalyst or reagent, thus providing a practical new method for the synthesis of...

Enantioselective Copper‐Catalyzed Radical Ring‐Opening Cyanation of Cyclopropanols and Cyclopropanone Acetals

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Lianqian Wu, Lei Wang, Pinghong Chen, Yin‐Long Guo, Guosheng Liu

Abstract A novel approach for enantioselective cyanation of cyclopropanols and their derivatives through copper‐catalyzed radical relay processes has been developed. Various cyclopropanols and cyclopropanone acetals are compatible to the catalytic conditions, providing β‐carbonyl nitriles with excellent enantioselectivity. These products can be readily converted to chiral γ‐amino acids derivatives and drugs such as (R)‐baclofen. Preliminary mechanistic studies have supported a ring‐opening...

Mild and Regioselective Three‐component Heteroarylation‐Nitration of Alkenes with Imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridines and tert‐Butyl Nitrite

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Jie Zhang, Shentong Xie, Ping Liu, Peipei Sun

Abstract An efficient and regioselective three‐component heteroarylation‐nitration of alkenes with imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridines and tert‐butyl nitrite has been developed. The process tolerants a variety of functional groups under mild conditions in the absence of catalysts and additives to give nitro functionalized imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridine derivatives in moderate to good yields. The reaction is also applicable for some other aza‐heterocycles.

Controlled Covalent Functionalization of 2 H‐MoS2 with Molecular or Polymeric Adlayers

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Ramiro Quirós‐Ovies, Manuel Vázquez Sulleiro, Mariano Vera‐Hidalgo, Javier Prieto, I. Jénnifer Gómez, Víctor Sebastián, Jesús Santamaría, Emilio M. Pérez

Abstract Most air‐stable 2D materials are relatively inert, which makes their chemical modification difficult. In particular, in the case of MoS2, the semiconducting 2 H‐MoS2 is much less reactive than its metallic counterpart, 1T‐MoS2. As a consequence, there are hardly any reliable methods for the covalent modification of 2 H‐MoS2. An ideal method for the chemical functionalization of such materials should be both mild, not requiring the introduction of a large number of defects, and...

Efficient Co‐Catalyzed Double Hydroboration of Nitriles: Application to One‐Pot Conversion of Nitriles to Aldimines

Published: 31 March 2020

Author(s): Kristina A. Gudun, Ainur Slamova, Davit Hayrapetyan, Andrey Y. Khalimon

Abstract The commercially available and bench‐stable Co(acac)2/dpephos system is employed as a precatalyst for selective and efficient room temperature hydroboration of organic nitriles with HBPin to produce a series of N,N‐diborylamines [RN(BPin)2], which react in situ with aldehydes to give aldimines. Formation of aldimines from N,N‐diborylamines does not require a dehydrating agent, is applicable to a wide range of N,N‐diborylamine and aldehyde substrates and is highly chemoselective, being...
