Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

This week, D. R. Spring et al. review strategies for the discovery of antibacterials. What is new in the area of quinolone quorum sensing modulators? In a Minireview, X. C. Le et al. discuss DNA assembly through affinity binding for ultrasensitive protein detection. The Highlight deals with the total synthesis of pactamycin (J. K. Kisunzu and R. Sarpong).

In the Communications section, I. Aprahamian et al. show how to manipulate the structure of a liquid crystal by using a pH-activated hydrazine switch (see picture). T. V. O’Halloran et al. present anticancer drugs based on molecular adducts of platinum and arsenic, which show an unanticipated structure, chemistry, and cytotoxicity. K. Takai et al. found a possibility of generating electricity in the deep sea by electrochemical analysis of hydrothermal fluids and the ambient seawater with fuel cells. A. Villinger et al. succeeded in the synthesis and characterization of the azides [Hg2N]N3 and β-Hg(N3)2.
