Linda Nazar: Developing Materials for Energy Storage And Conversion

Professor Linda Nazar, University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, held the August Wilhelm von Hofmann Lecture at the Science Forum Chemistry 2013 or in German Wissenschaftsforum 2013 of the German chemical society (GDCh; Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker) in Darmstadt, Germany.

Here, Professor Nazar summarizes her research that focuses on developing new materials for energy storage and conversion, with research spanning Li-ion and Na-ion batteries, Li-sulfur and Li-air batteries, and fuel cell catalysts.


Sason Shaik, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, IsraelLinda Nazar gained her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Toronto, Canada. Thereafter, she joined Exxon Corporate Research, Annandale, NJ, USA, as a post-doctoral fellow. At present she is Professor of Chemistry and Electrical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and holds a Senior Canada Research Chair in Solid State Materials.
Linda Nazar was awarded the Electrochemistry Society Battery Research award in 2009, was the 2010 Moore Distinguished Scholar at the California Institute of Technology, USA, and the winner of the Rio Tinto Alcan Award (CSC) in 2011 for her work in inorganic electrochemistry.
