The DECHEMA Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V. (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology) founded the German platform NanoBioMedizin, an information and discussion platform to integrate nanotechnology in biomedical applications in Germany. This is based on the work of the temporary ProcessNet working group NanoBioMedizin which says in their position paper “Forschungsbedarf und Randbedingungen zur Integration der Nanotechnologie in biomedizinische Anwendungen” (Research needs and boundary conditions for the integration of nanotechnology in biomedical applications) that at the European level, the European Technology Platform Nanomedicine is the information and discussion platform. At the national level appropriate structures to implement the existing scientific and economic potential were lacking. However, to bring Germany into a leading position in this technology, they are necessary.

The NanoBioMedizin platform wants to represent the interests of the researchers, it aims at encouraging communication between scientists (materials scientists, chemists, biologists and physicists) and medical professionals (pharmacists, clinicians and those in the industry), and wants to further develop integrated research funding from the lab to the clinic. It also aims to provide a strategic agenda for nanobiomedicine development in Germany.

The inaugural meeting was held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, on March 4, 2015 with interested industrial and academic experts.
