The Chinese battery materials producer Ningbo Shanshan is considering to invest 1.3 billion euros in Finland to build a battery chemical plant, which will be one of the largest in Europe. The exact location in Finland remains undisclosed. The plant would primarily produce anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, as stated in an announcement by Ningbo Shanshan, with an expected yearly output of 100,000 tons.

The first construction phase is estimated to start within 24 months. However, a number of steps is said must be completed before the project is actualized, such as evaluating the plant’s environmental impact and financing.
