
Program Overview
The Chemistry Europe Travel Grant supports early-career researchers by providing €2,000 for short-term international research stays. The goal is to foster scientific collaboration across borders and support the professional development of emerging scientists.
Purpose
Launched in 2024, this initiative aims to strengthen international research networks by enabling 1–2-month research stays at institutions outside the applicant’s current country of residence. Following a limited number of applications in its first year, the program was revised in May 2025 to enhance accessibility and appeal.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be at least two years post-PhD
- Be a member of a participating Chemistry Europe society
- Plan a 1–2-month research stays in a country different from their current home institution
Note: At the time of application, the research stay does not need to be finalized or confirmed.
Participating Societies
Grants are awarded on a rotating basis to early career researchers whose current country of residence is the following:

- Poland – Polskie Towarzystwo Chemiczne
- Portugal – Sociedade Portuguesa de Química
- Slovakia – Slovenská chemická spoločnosť
- Spain – Real Sociedad Española de Química

- Switzerland – Schweizerische Chemische Gesellschaft
Even Year, namely next year (2026):
- Austria – Österreichische Chemische Gesellschaft
- Belgium – the two Belgian chemical Societies (KVCV, SRC) are jointly represented by C.G.B. (Comité de Gestion du Bulletin) – C.B.B. (Comité van Beheer van het Bulletin)
- Czechia – Česká společnost chemická
- Germany – Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker
- Greece – Ένωση Ελλήνων Χημικών
- Hungary – Magyar Kémikusok Egyesülete
- Italy – Società Chimica Italiana
- Netherlands – Koninklijke Nederlandse Chemische Vereniging

Grant Details
- Amount: €2,000 per recipient
- Number of Grants: One per participating society
- Use of Funds: Flexible use to support the research stay (e.g., travel, accommodation, research expenses)
- Timeline: Research stay must begin within 18 months of selection
- Acknowledgment: Any resulting publications must acknowledge the Chemistry Europe Travel Grant
- Reporting: Recipients agree to share the dates and location of their stay for communication purposes
Application Timeline
- July – November 1: Application period
- November – December: Societies review and select recipients
- By December 31: Societies report winners to Chemistry Europe
- January: Winners announced by Chemistry Europe
How to Apply
Applicants must submit:
- A CV
- A motivation letter outlining the research project and potential host institutions
- A list of 5 relevant publications
Applications must be submitted via your national society. Please check with your society for submission instructions.
Selection Criteria
- Strong focus on early-career researchers
- Scientific excellence and feasibility of the proposed project
Funding Process
- Recipient provides a letter of acceptance from the host institution to their society
- The Participating Society transfers funds to the winners on behalf of Chemistry Europe
- If the research stay does not occur, funds must be returned
